QUESTIONNAIRE
Firstly) Is your organization
youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly
Both youth led and youth serving.
1. INDIVIDUAL AND
ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES
a) If funds were available, what
youth activities related to a culture of peace (CoP) would you like
to do as an individual?
Create opportunities for
cross-cultural learning by creating opportunities for interaction
with different cultures and allow the cultures to teach and inform
eachother. Creating those same interactions within the specific
country as well - particularly between groups with known issues.
b) What non-financial support would you need to do these
activities?
A network of individuals and organizations who
would actively participate in creating these cultural exchange
opportunities. Donation from airline and transportation companies to
support youth travels. Technological infrastructure to support the
project and facilitate communications .
c) If funds were
available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your
organization like to do?
Promote cross-cultural awareness -
teach conflict resolution tactics, promote peace and human
rights education -- utilizing historical and contemporary examples.
d) What non-financial support would your organization need
to do these activities?
Support of organizations and
community leaders in the country - in recruiting youth to
participate in the programs, and ensuring the community is in
agreement with what is being taught. Access to historical archives,
prominent leaders, etc.
2. SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND THE
UN
a) What changes in youth policies do you think the
government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
Eradicate disparities and inequalities in the educational
system.
b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN
should carry out?
Cross-cultural understanding activities,
youth congress for resolution and brainstorming of existing issues
and way of discussing and bringing to the table specifically, issues
that affect youth. Publication and dissemination of materials
with peace as a central theme to popularize peace and human rights
as values. Create a Peace Museum in each country as a testament to
the culture of peace. Create scholarships to fund those youths
working for peace.
3. Do you have any suggestions or
recommendations for improving youth participation in CoP activities
on any level (UN, government, civil society)?
Make it a part
of the educational system. With requried courses and involvement in
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and
flow of information in promoting the CoP?
Create a blog that
is updated weekly, or as events transpire - dissemination of a
newsletter. Updates to local newspapers - i.e. create partnerships
for media outlets to publish updates on the CoP's initiatives.
5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary
Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be managed/administered?
6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be
reached and motivated to get involved?
Through entertainment
- whether mass media (radio, TV, print) or mulitmedia.

Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP?
b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact
them with the questionnaire? Please specify.

Hello David - the org. is actually still in its
formative stages - isn't quite official, projects are in
development and some work is being done unofficially -- present
coordinators live in Oakland, California and Newark, New Jersey. The
target country is Northern Uganda.
Looking forward to
reading the completed proposal. Your work is so necessary. Thank you
on behalf of the youth who never know who put in all the work for ze
project!
