questionnaire:
1. a) If funds were available,
what youth activities related to a CoP would you like to do as an
individual?
I would like to run a wide game with
children/young people about war & refugees, a mock court case
about democratic participation, a mock UN security council meeting
about disarmement. I would want to organize anti-war marches in my
city. I would run non-violent direct action workshops! Organize a
"take back the night" parade for women at my university. Mostly
Peer-to-peer education. In the future I want to run a social &
sustainable enterprise.
b) What non-financial support do you
need to do these activities?
Mentorship opportunities with
cool adults, skills and training apprenticeships, internships or
cooperative work placements.
c) If funds were available,
what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like
to do?
We do not have capacity to take on any more
activities. We would only strengthen what our organization is
already doing. We run free camps above to do the similar things I
outlined above. We run Canadas largest sustainable campuses
program. We work with 80% of Canadian campuses to get them to become
more sustainable.
d) What non-financial support does your
organization need for CoP activities?
None. We know what we
want to do and how to do it. Sometimes we just don't have the money
to pull it off. We had to lay off a few staff people when the
government changed and didn't want to give us funding for the
projects that they had in the past.
2. a) What changes in
youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your
country should make to promote a CoP?
The leadership of my
government is currently conservative. They have no interest in a
culture of peace. They should certainly ask for a ceasefire between
Isreal and Jordan, they should let gay people marry. They should
stop trying to privitize everything. They should try to reduce out
green house gas emissions and meaningfully join the Kyoto protocol.
They should bring in proportional representation!
b) What
CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should
do?
* Small-scale and youth-led initiatives are vital to
poverty eradication so give away Microgrants of $1,000 to youth
groups!
* Ask governments to fund youth employment
strategies.
* Microfinance is a key tool in creating
sustainable opportunities for young people. Young people need
experience difficulty securing credit, materials, resources and
microfinance. Work with a youth organization like Global Youth
Action Network to create a stream of their organization that help
young people wanting to make sustainable social enterprises get
everything they need!
OPTIONAL QUESTIONS
3. Do you
have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any levels (UN, government, civil
society)?
4. What could be done to improve/ensure
transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
5.
To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth
and CoP, how should it be managed/administered?
6. How can
youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and
motivated?
7. a) Which other organizations do you know of,
that work for a CoP?

Dear Elissa Smith,
I see from your TIG profile
that you are precisely the person that we are looking for input
from. Already below you have given us a short list of
suggestions for what a fund could be used for. And according
to your profile you belong to several of the groups that we sent
questionnaires to, although they did not respond. |
