This
questionnaire will lay the basis for a UN youth fund for a culture of
peace (CoP). We would like your input concerning the activities
of such a fund. Although it is your personal input, we would like
to know what organization you belong to.
You may be asking
yourself “what is a Culture of Peace?” A culture of peace, is not
merely the absence of war. Currently there is a United Nations Decade
on Culture of Peace and Non-violence, 2001-2010. As part of the
decade, a program of action has been adopted outlining the 8 core areas
of a culture of peace:
Education for a culture of peace Respect for human rights Sustainable development Democratic participation Equality between women and men International understanding, tolerance and solidarity Free flow of information International Peace and Security
1. BASIC QUESTIONS
a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would you like to do as an individual?
PSA's
or news releases made by youth for youth, with a regional focus
(developing your community) but an universal goal (Housing for every
human being).
b) What non-financial support do you need to do these activities?
Audiovisual and communication students volunteering and great ideas.
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
Building events in needed communities with famous people (important people with something to say) in Latin America.
Better infrastructure to National Offices in latin AMerica to improve their work in their own countries.
d) What non-financial support would your organization need to do these activities?
Alliences with the Goberment in each country where we work Alliences with other Organizations that work for the same goal. Alliences with health and education organizations.
e) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
More programs in High Schools and Universities that include social work, peace and Human Rights courses.
f) What CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should do?
Should include as part of education in all schools and universities all over the world courses on Human Rights.
OPTIONAL QUESTIONS

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any levels (UN, government, civil
society)? None
3. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP? make
sure that the goals that everyone who is working for it, doesn't have a
personal agenda to fullfil but a common one with the Organization's
goal.
4. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth and CoP, how should it be managed/administered? It
should be administrated by youth, by young leaders with different focus
on their carrers... to ensure that every need and every field is
covered.
5. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated? everybody
understimates the power of verbal communication, so, just by telling
and making their friends involve, that could be a first step, then
festivals can be organized, festivals that include music and art, and
other ways to express.
