questionnaire,

1.     a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your members like to do as an individual?

We would have to ask them but we get regular requests for funds for meetings of Indian and Pakistani youth on the issue of Kashmir; Azeri and Armenian youth on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh etc. It is a chicken and egg problem: young people will not get excited or imaginative about dreaming up creative Peace Action Projects when they know through bitter experience that there are absolutely NO funds available.

b) What non-financial support do they need to do these activities?

Challenging guidelines; inspirational stories of what other young people have done; some mentorship and project management guidance; some help in managing funds, especially in developing countries.

c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?

The attached "Peace Child meets Big Brother" documentary series is one I would particularly like to do; we also have plans for a fiction film of Peace Child set in Kashmir which we have long sought to do; also a series of programmes on the World¹s Greatest Peace-makers with the public making their choice via the internet. Organisationally, we want to do media programmes to make peace exciting, fun and cool in the eyes of the general public. However, peace in the eyes of media people is ponderous, 'worthy¹ and extremely un-cool thus funds for peace media projects are even harder to come by than charitable funding. Our peace media projects are very low budget as they would all be made by youth volunteers who have helped devise these ideas.  We are more interested in such projects as we feel they would make a better impact. However, we would also support our young members with the meetings they wish to do.

d) What non-financial support does your organization need for CoP activities?

Not much.

2.     a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?

"See young people as a resource, not a problem..." - and not just a resource to be used as cannon-fodder in their illegal wars.

b) What CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should do?

Media projects, of course! Get UNTV involved and, perhaps, UN Publications.

OPTIONAL QUESTIONS

3.     Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth participation in CoP activities on any levels (UN, government, civil society)?

Yes!  Embrace the concept of co-management in any activities/initiativesinvolving young people. See: www.co-management.info. This would ensure that any initiatives coming out of the CoP was genuinely owned and operated by young people with adult-support.

4.     What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?

"Promoting the CoP"? - you would have to engage the NGOs like ourselves. As you are doing. Do NOT rely just on UN information flows the Youth Bulletins are OK, but irregular and don¹t reach non-organised youth.

5.    To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth and CoP, how should it be managed/administered?

See: www.co-management.info.

6.     How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and
motivated?

Through the NGOs.

7.    a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP?

None that I can think of.

b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the questionnaire? Please specify.

8.    My response to this questionnaire is my personal opinion Yes!
