1. a)
If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP
would you like to do as an individual?
I would love to see
more exchanges programs, opportunities for young people to travel
and/or meet with youth from other countries (online forums for
example), help them to organize project within international
context, empower young people to be community leaders,
etc.
b) What non-financial support do you need to do these
activities?
Contacts are always useful, partnerships with
'well-known' International NGOs and/or UN agencies are essential in
certain context (developing countries for example) because it gives
the project more legitimacy and consequently attract more
participants, donors, and so on.
c) If funds were available,
what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like
to do?
I can only speak for myself but the direction Hague
Appeal for Peace is taking with its transition toward Peace Boat US
is explicit: develop peace education programs for students as well
as teachers training (on-board), open dialogue between nations,
promote exchanges, get more and more people exposed and aware of
what is peace in its broader definition (not just the absence of
war), etc.
d) What non-financial support does your
organization need for CoP activities?
Connect with other
organizations doing similar work, together we might be stronger. We
always need more people to get involved but yet it becomes too hard
to manage if the staff/allocation capacity doesn't increased with
the network! More support from officials, etc.
2. a) What
changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in
your country should make to promote a CoP?
Create Youth
Assembly with Representatives within governments/various ministries,
get youth involved in decision making processes.
b) What CoP
youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should
do?
The UN should facilitate youth forums and empower young
people. The UN should influence all represented governments to
implement CoP. Every agency should be trained to promote the CoP
within there own activities. Whenever the UN get involved in a peace
agreement they should make sure CoP is included,
etc.
OPTIONAL QUESTIONS
3. Do you have any suggestions
or recommendations for improving youth participation in CoP
activities on any levels (UN, government, civil
society)?
Raise more awareness, use all form of arts and
sports to promote CoP, help them disconstruct all misperceptions and
skepticism they built about peace and non violence, make them feel
empowered by sharing successful stories (for example YAT 2005 made a
difference and their work was recognize within the GA), etc.
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and
flow of information in promoting the CoP?
Well, access to
information is very unfair worldwide and it will take time and money
to solve these unbalances. Whereas transparency depends also on
individuals and their good will in a societies where we cultivate
competition rather than cooperation... We could imagine some kind of
monitoring committee which would report to the whole, etc.
5.
To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth
and CoP, how should it be managed/administered?
There should
be a proposal. Then, it should be voted according to what seem to be
a priority for the majority.
6. How can youth not yet
involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated?
Target
schools, clubs/associations; music and sports are two amazingly
attractive mediums to be used. The movie-documentary "Favela Rising"
shows a great example of how powerful music can be, especially among
young people to promote CoP.
7. a) Which other organizations
do you know of, that work for a CoP?
Many organizations work
for CoP indirectly/in their own ways but I don't know any that focus
on pushing for the implementation of UN resolution on CoP and I am
convinced many peace organizations don't even know about
it.
b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact
them with the questionnaire? Please specify.
8. My response
to this questionnaire is my personal opinion
