QUESTIONNAIRE
Firstly) Is your organization
youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) consists of
a Children and Youth Unit that carries out educational
activities and provides awareness programmes involving youth and
children from all over the world in ensuring environmental
sustainability which is one of the millennium development goals to
be achieved by the 2015.
1. INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL
ACTIVITIES
a) If funds were available, what youth activities
related to a culture of peace (CoP) would you like to do as an
individual?
-I would like to produce media programmes
(TV/Radio) on various activities carried out all over the world on
culture of peace
b) What non-financial support would you need
to do these activities?
c) If funds were available, what
youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to
do?
-Tree planting and Clean-up activities -Organizing of
major youth conferences and/workshops -Media Campaigns to enhance
awareness
d) What non-financial support would your
organization need to do these activities?
2. SUPPORT FROM
GOVERNMENT AND THE UN
a) What changes in youth policies do
you think the government/leadership in your country should make to
promote a CoP?
- Involving the youth in decision -making
through the youth parliament in Kenya. -Allocating enough funds
through the setting up of a Youth Fund run and managed by the
Ministry of Youth Affairs.
b) What CoP youth activities do
you think the UN should carry out?
Conferences to bring the
youth in one global forum from the different countries to come up
with declarations and action points that will highlight issues
affecting the youth.
3. Do you have any suggestions or
recommendations for improving youth participation in CoP activities
on any level (UN, government, civil society)?
4. What could
be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in
promoting the CoP?
5. To ensure the best possible benefit of
a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be
managed/administered?
-I think it should be managed by the
youth themselves, kind of like having a 'Youth UN" who will decide
how funds can be distributed for the various activities/initiatives.
6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be
reached and motivated to get involved?
Personally the media
is the most effective way of reaching the youth in schools/ social
gatherings and creating resource centers at grass root levels for
easy access of information.
7. a) Which other organizations
do you know of, that work for a CoP? None
b) Would you
be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the
questionnaire? Please specify. I would be willing to contact them
myself.
