QUESTIONNAIRE

Firstly) Is your organization youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) consists of a Children and Youth Unit that  carries out educational activities and provides awareness programmes involving youth and children from all over the world in ensuring environmental sustainability which is one of the millennium development goals to be achieved by the 2015.

1. INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES

a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a culture of peace (CoP) would you like to do as an individual?

-I would like to produce media programmes (TV/Radio) on various activities carried out all over the world on culture of peace

b) What non-financial support would you need to do these activities?

c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?

-Tree planting and Clean-up activities
-Organizing of major youth conferences and/workshops
-Media Campaigns to enhance awareness

d) What non-financial support would your organization need to do these activities?

2. SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND THE UN

a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?

- Involving the youth in decision -making through the youth parliament in Kenya.
-Allocating enough funds through the setting up of a Youth Fund run and managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs.

b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN should carry out?

Conferences to bring the youth in one global forum from the different countries to come up with declarations and action points that will highlight issues affecting the youth.

3. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth participation in CoP activities on any level (UN, government, civil society)?

4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?

5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be managed/administered?

-I think it should be managed by the youth themselves, kind of like having a 'Youth UN" who will decide how funds can be distributed for the various activities/initiatives.

6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated to get involved?

Personally the media is the most effective way of reaching the youth in schools/ social gatherings and creating resource centers at grass root levels for easy access of information.

7. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP?  None

b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the questionnaire? Please specify. I would be willing to contact them myself.

8. My response to this questionnaire is my personal
