UKRAINIAN MOVEMENT "EDUCATORS FOR PEACE AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING"
RESPONSE ON QUESTIONNAIRE
Firstly) Is your organization youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly.
- We are primarily youth-serving NGO but there are some youth assosiations under Movement which are youth-led.
a)If
funds were available, what youth activities related to a culture
of peace (CoP) would you like to do as an individual?
As a Director of Youth Center, which I established 10 years ago,
I
develop the network of youth assosiations -the chapters of the
Movement. I also established Youth Training Group, Youth Tourism &
Sport Agency,Youth Genderclub "Yunka" and others under my Center.
Almost all their work is led by some voluntares. To make ,coordinate
and organize their current work more prodactive I need payed
experienced educators or tutors.
I have initiated
some interesting and essential youth projects and for their realization
we have to seek some grants.
Now we also need finance to create
Resource Center to settle our big collection of materials on
Peace issues .to provide methodical and informational assistance for
our 200 chapters of peacemakers.
b) What non-financial support would you need to do these activities?
I would like; - to learn new technologies of learning and teaching methods related to a CoP :participating in special seminars or training -
to receive more information news and best experience on CoP issues via
publications or special journals from UN, UNESCO for our Resourse
Center . - to attract qualified support of of experienced
specialists( trainers) for a volantary consultations to improve
work with youngsters.
c)If funds were available what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
-
2 years youth project "Peace Stars" helped our peace
champions to make investigation in searching materials about Laureates
of Peace Prizes for the first in the country Peace Museum Now we need
funds for the Museum buiding and exhibits' installation.
We also
plan to organize Summer Eco-School- on- water ( training camp for youth
leaders on the ship along the Dnieper River together with our partners
from Europe)
We have gained important experience of arranging
Kids Peace Congresses, Forums and Festivals on national and
international levels. They are real laboratories for learning Peace ,
Democracy, Diversity of Cultures inpractice. We are preparing to
organize the next traditional XII -th Peace Kids' Festival
dedicated to World Earth Day.and invite our partners from other
countries.
d) What non-financial support would your organization need to do these activities?
We would like; - to develop partnership with youth organizations of Europe and other countries. for joint cooperation. - to learn new ideas and ways of youth peacemaking activity at the special seminars or trainings; -
to organize seminar for young people in Ukraine using
"Equal-to-Equal " or other methods during the sessions of
Training Eco-Peace camp -to invite qualified consaltants and designers
to help with fundraising and setting up our Peace Museum - to
suggest some Central European partners to participate in joint Youth
project "Let's build Europe without Violence and Conflicts"
2. SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND THE UN
a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
NGOs
in Ukraine practically do not receive any support from the
Government and local state bodies. NGOs must use a lot of efforts to
survive and keep their goals , develop activities( f.i. I have given to
the Ukrainian Parliamentt Session new vitally important proposal-
to carry out and implement the National Program "A Culture of
Peace" which was approved 3 years ago. But till now nobody is
responsible for this decision and finally it was lost in papers . No
doubt that such national Program would involve state organs (Ministry
of Education , Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Youth and Family
affairs and others)which could provide organizational and financial
support and give new possibilities to realize
essential youth projects and national initiatives in the spheres of
peace education, youth health , children's rights, handling conflicts
and youth violence, preventing bad habits, improving leadership and
civic consciousnessas well as carrying out special educational
programs, courses, manuals for schools and institutes for
learning CoP issues in the national system of education.
- To involve youth for making decisions on the state level
b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN should carry out?
-
To send the UN Statement or Appeal to our leaders of Goverment to
attract their attention to the impotance of peace education and
bringing up of youth in the spirit of peace and tolerance- the main
criterions of life security.
- Today our prior goal is to build
comfortable surrounding for the kids but we don't have enough
infomation or instructive materials from UNISEF ,UNESCO, UN about
gained experience and strategies (magazines are limited
,national branch of UN is unattainable, interactive youth NGO's
contacts (forums, meetings, conferences) are accesible only for the
persistent organizations or have political aims.
OTHER QUESTIONS
3.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any level (UN, government, civil
society)?
1. (To the Government and Ministry of Education and Science)To recommend- creation of National Complex Program in which:

youngsters 4(To the Ministry of Tourism and Family Affars). Toprovide
volunteers and specialists iof social and youth work to assist NGOs in
peacemaking activity and involving non-organized kids in youth

other small one which are dealing with CoP issues too.
