Firstly) Is your organization youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly.

Organization is primarily youth-serving, though many young people are involved in its management and day-to-day operation.

1. INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES

a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a culture of peace (CoP) would you like to do as an individual?

The easiest way to reach youth at the moment is to organize extracurricular classes/clubs in schools and universities to address the basics of CoP, teach the concepts of tolerance, diversity etc.

b) What non-financial support would you need to do these activities?

Guidelines to negotiate the conditions of such courses with school and university management. Additional CoP related training.

c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?

Support the initiative of the Multicultural Youth Festival “Veselka” organized by the Multi-ethnic Children Centre “Melevshe”. This festival is a great way to promote peace through intercultural experiences.

d) What non-financial support would your organization need to do these activities?

Volunteers to help with logistics.

2. SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND THE UN

a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?

Provided the scarcity of the financial support the government can grant, the best thing they can do now is to review school and university curricula in order to 1) eliminate all references to intolerance that exist in textbooks; 2) introduce peace studies as intra/extra curricular activities.

b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN should carry out?

Extend the existing UNESCO and UNDP activities to a broader level to involve more youth.

OTHER QUESTIONS

3. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth participation in CoP activities on any level (UN, government, civil society)?

As to the government, perhaps try to involve more young (unbiased and liberal) people in decision-making and management of government agencies responsible for inter-ethnic and/or intercultural policies.

4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?

Provide mass media outlets with information on the consequences that can be caused with improper coverage of culture/ethnicity etc related events and such.

5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be managed/administered?

It support more local initiatives outreaching for wider audiences in places of potential conflict.

6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated to get involved?

Through demonstration of how their contribution can work for change.

7. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP?

Centre for Peace and Community Development, Bude, UK

b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the questionnaire? Please specify.

They can be contacted at chris@cpcd.org.uk

8. My response to this questionnaire is my personal opinion ? _X_ / organization's opinion ? ___
