Nuno Boria Youth Action for Peace, UK action@yap-uk.org Official Response BASIC QUESTIONS 1. Individual and organisational activities a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would you like to do as an individual? List 3. He
is the only paid staff but he lives in Sweden and he works in a virtual
office, he would like funds to start a Swedish Branch, unfortunately
the Swedish governments funds are harder to reach b) What non-financial support would you need to do these activities? Information
about European programmes unclear, it should become more user-friendly
and less complicated. It should be easier to gain information to learn
how to apply to such programmes. Perhaps there should be some practical
workshops on how to apply to funds as most of the people who work in
these organisations are volunteers and do not have such professional
experience. c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organisation like to do? Organise
Youth exchanges for groups, to promote a culture of peace activities.
Seminars are something we would like to do; we would like to do more in
the UK, offering a deeper understanding than offered at the work camps. d) What non-financial support would your organisation need to do these activities? Same as for the individual activities. We mainly just need financial support, and the knowledge of how to reach this money.
2. Support from Government and the UN a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP? To
be honest I don’t see any results of any youth policy by the UK
government, A stronger link with the EU programmes. I don’t know enough
about their youth policy to answer. But in the country the link that
NGO’s do is still linked to much with the idea of charity rather than
practical work towards peace.
b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN should carry out?
Is
already doing quite a lot in that area, but unfortunately the profile
of its activities is to high and too far from the general public so we
only have WORLD Days which are too institutional and too far away from
the people, and it should also be less beurocratic and closer to the
grassroots so they should work more directly with small NGOs such as
ours OPTIONAL QUESTIONS
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
Things should be more clear and written in a more accessible language.
In the case of the European Union, they have funds available but the
language is more directed at bureaucrats than small NGOs which are run
by volunteers. Hopefully a UN run scheme would be more down to earth.
5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be managed/administered?
I think it should be less bureaucratic and perhaps it would be good to
have a local or regional management of the programs rather than just at
a National or European level. It should be as close to young people as
possible.
