Peace Direct Ben Cuthbertson Ben@peacedirect.org +44 (0)20 7549 0285 BASIC QUESTIONS 1. Individual and organisational activities a)
If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would
you like to do as an individual? None; I would rather the money be
spent on grass roots organisations. b) What non-financial support would you need to do these activities? NA c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organisation like to do? UK
outreach programmes (focused in the London East End) involving
education and increasing links between grass roots organisations and
conflict resolution NGOs. d) What non-financial support would your organisation need to do these activities? Only community involvement, we would rather there was as little top-down organisational control as possible.
2. Support from Government and the UN a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP? I would like to see peace and conflict resolution on the educational curriculum. b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN should carry out? It should be restricted to an administrative role. It should help forge global links for grass roots organisations. OPTIONAL QUESTIONS 3.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any level (UN, government, civil
society)? As I perceive it there is no lack of desire, but a
feeling that youth have no platform to be heard. There should be forums
for youth groups at a higher level so that those who are motivated can
be heard. 4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be managed/administered? I am convinced that the UN is not corrupt and am happy with an internal overseeing of the fund. 6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated to get involved? Greater
publicity for organisations involved in the culture of peace, and
increased funding for select organisations with youth educational
focus.
