QUESTIONNAIRE
Firstly) Is your organization youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly.
The
Juniper Peace Education Programme for Schools is a youth-serving
programme aimed at both primary and secondary age pupils. Normally, the
programme extends over a 6-week period during which small groups of
children or young people meet together weekly for an hour at a time to
experience and talk about peace: peace within themselves, peace with
others, and peace with the planet.
1. INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES
a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a culture of peace (CoP) would you like to do as an individual?
I would like to like to develop offshoot programmes around storytelling and singing for peace.
b) What non-financial support would you need to do these activities?
- support of a storytelling network and/or volunteer musicians
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
- extend the Juniper programme to more schools; develop the 'Peaceful Classroom' programme
d) What non-financial support would your organization need to do these activities?
- willingness of schools to consider the programme; endorsement from Teaching Council and Curriculum Review Group
2. SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND THE UN
a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
- seriously considering incorporating 'education for peace' values in national curriculum
b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN should carry out?
- help the network of youth organisations grow and become better acquainted
OTHER QUESTIONS

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any level (UN, government, civil
society)?
- promote more media attention to such activities; celebrate youth initiative
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
- develop youth-oriented web sites, newsletters, tv and web programming, mobile phone communication
5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be managed/administered?
6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated to get involved?
Encourage peace values at all levels of government; in schools; community leaders - role model
7. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP?
Cross-Party Group on Creating a Culture of Peace in Scotland and associated network of groups and organisations
