a) First of all, being a youth NGO activist in between Europe and
Middle East, makes me a lot aware about the tensions that could have
been eliminated through non-violent means of communication. Thus, if
funds were available, I could setup an initiative to increase the
awareness for learning more about non-violent strategies and local
involvement through peaceful solutions of disputes.
b)There is
definitely need for support from international institutions such as UN
or EU in order to have visibility before the media which will multiply
the effects of the actions carried out to each CoP.
c) First of
all since all progress is related to education, we would organize a
training for trainers for youth workers/leaders who can further
transfer the knowledge and develop tolerance for groups of youth in
ethnic/religious/identity etc. conflict
d) As it is also
essential again here to have support from international organizations,
we would need qualified trainers and qualified training material and
good practices on how to implement CoP activities. Moreover, it
is important to maintain a cross-cultural atmosphere while organizing
activities, so we would need participants from all related parties.

a) State policy in Turkey has a lot of missing points when it comes to
youth policy. It is recent that a shift is being seen from seeing the
youth policies as only a matter of free time of the youth. So I think
the government should be courageous to support activities that promote
multiculturalism and establish a basis for dialogue between groups of
youth in conflict.
b) UN, with its high capacity, should
organize more global/regional/national summits and workshops for youth
leaders to increase their and their organisations’ capacities.
Moreover, UN should setup funds to support youth initiatives and
develop policies to integrate youth workers as professional bodies
within local/national governments.
Optional questions
3.
In order to encourage youth participation in CoP activities – whose
outcome will definitely be more beneficial in the long term than
government officials -, bearing in mind that the financial problems
that youth volunteers encounter with, UN should support mobility fund
for trainers and youth workers and establish a basis for dialogue for
CoP between government and civil society stakeholders.
4.
Internet is a powerful tool when used appropriately, so I think more PR
campaign in many languages – such as All Different, All Equal of
Council of Europe – could be effective.
5. It should be
administered by local UN bodies in each country with participation of
government officials, civil society and international institutions’
representatives in the selection committees.
6. Through
effective PR campaigns and trainings in local communities, by reaching
out young people in the region in which they live.
