1. a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would you to do as an individual? Myself,
I would love to organize an event on large scale, for and by youth.
Dancing, singing, jumping, all forms of cultural expression will be
showed to people during this festival.
b) What non-financial support do you need to do these activities? Material related to peace and freedom. Booklets, buttons, stickers, balloons, everything!
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do? Exchange
with youth from marginalized areas like Romania. During this exchange
different activities could be organized related to cultural diversity
and cooperation among youth. Examples are role plays and other
participatory activities.
d) What non-financial support does your organization need for CoP activities? Cooperation and participation of countries to organize this exchange.
2. a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP? They
have to put more emphasis on the cultural diversity we have here in
Rotterdam. There are at least 162 different ethnicities living in
Rotterdam.
b) What CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should do? Living
in peace is something that should be important for everybody. Because
the UN is an enormous organ working in the area of peace, they can
manage a lot. It is the task of the UN to show “bigger powers” that
peace is a “must-be”. They could also organize or fund a big festival.
A festival organized by and for youth. For presentations during this
festival one could think of Moroccan dances exercised by Moroccan
youth, Capoeira, a Brazilian fighting art (found out by African slaves)
OPTIONAL QUESTIONS 3.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any levels (UN, government, civil
society)? Do not only focus on provincial or national level but also
on neighborhood level. If people living within the same neighborhood
get to know each other the solidarity within the neighborhood will be
strengthened and people shall be more willing stand up for their rights.
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP? Also,
more emphasis on neighborhood level. If the scale is smaller and
the density of the environment bigger, it will be more easy to spread
to information in that specific neighborhood.
5. To ensure the best possible return of a voluntary fund for youth and CoP, how should it be managed/administered? There
should be one organ that manages the fund. This organ could distribute
forms to organizations working with peace and freedom to apply for
funding. On these forms the exigencies will be given and one should ask
for the objective, the scale, the finances and the cooperation with
other organs related to the project. 6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated? Go
to the places where youth find themselves. The youth that is not active
yet is often difficult to reach. Schools, youth clubs, walks through
the neighborhood, all could contribute to reach as many youth as
possible.
7. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP? UNICEF,
Apollo, a member organization of the Rotterdam youth council is working
on equal rights for everybody. They focus on gay and lesbian youth. b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the questionnaire? Please specify. Off course, like indicated before, the more people know about this project, the better!
