1.b)
When dealing with Peace education, the access to materials useful for
personal training, such as books, acts of conferences and audiovisual
aid (videotapes, cd’s, dvd’s etc) could be of significant support. Also,
the possibility of participating in some UN offices/agencies
activities, obviously related to the work done by the Department of
Education on Peace and International Solidarity, such as on- the-field
monitoring, would be of great interest.
c) The Department of
Education on Peace and International Solidarity (DEPIS) of the Diocesan
Caritas of Rome already promotes and organizes activities (see
attachment) with the aim of educating young people to a culture of
peace. If funds were available the Department could increase the number
of activities; improve the quality of the activities in question (for
example with the publication of the acts of the workshops and
seminars); increase the participation of more young people by granting
free access to all initiatives (especially the “Horizons and Borders”
project – see attachment).
d) When dealing with Peace education,
the access to materials useful for training, such as books, acts of
conferences and audiovisual aid (videotapes, cd’s, dvd’s etc) could be
of significant support. It would also be very useful to benefit of
some logistic support for brief periods of time (one to two weeks)
during our experiences abroad, more specifically during our
“Horizons and Borders” project, such as: residing in UN structures, the
availability of vehicles and various materials (radio, roadmaps, etc),
and interaction with local staff (for example interpreters and guides). The possibility to access a database and improve the network.
2.a)
Article 8 of italian law 230/98 comma 2, para e) states “forms of
agreement with the ‘Department for Civil Protection’ need be arranged
for research and testing of non violent and non armed civil defence
strategies”. We believe that the implementation of what indicated by
this law is of great relevance. We also believe that specific
training on dealing with conflicts is necessary for teachers so to have
an impact at all educational levels in the school environment. Finally,
it is essential to increase financial resources for the “National Civil
Service” (that have decreased in recent years) because we believe that
the “Civil Service” is a significant experience in order to increase a
culture of peace.
b) The UN carries out an important role in
creating awareness through various initiatives, such as various
days dedicated to specific issues (human rights day etc) or the
dedication of whole years and decades to specific topic areas. Through
this new fund, the UN could increase the possibility for young
volunteers to “stay” in areas that have been marked by war, because
only by “staying” in such contexts can one fully understand the meaning
of war for those that have lived it.
OPTIONAL QUESTIONS
3.
At the moment the possibility of acquiring a culture of peace is still
elitist. It is necessary to work more on the territory (schools,
parishes, associations etc), and not remain only at a “conference
level” or at an expert level.
4. A broadcasting space could be
“purchased” for a program involving the participation of those
individuals that actively work for Peace (in NGO’S, associations etc)
in places where conflicts exist. 7. a) Pax Christi www.paxchristi.it
b) Yes we can contact them if it could be of use to you.
