1. a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would you like to do as an individual?
AGESCI
is the Italian Catholic Association of Girl Guides and Boy Scouts. It
is a voluntary- based organization aimed at educating children and
young people through the scoutism pedagogy. We used to work with no
funds or little budget coming from members fees or ad hoc self funding.
We have 2 specific sectors of our activities related with CoP:
1.
The Peace and Non-Violence sector: to develop programs and activities
for peace, intercultural, global education addressed to our members
(200.000 in Italy). An important part of the work focuses on anti-mafia
education.
2. The International sector: to develop the world
brotherhood of scoutism/guidism movement, support the grow of
scout/guide associations in under-conflict or post -conflict countries,
developing countries through partnership.
b) What non-financial support do you need to do these activities?
Expertise, skills and knowledge are provided by our leaders. Thus means that we need good training proposal for them.
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
For
the time being, there is a project that we are trying to support and to
promote "Amahoro project: peace education and fight against ethnical
prejudice" (pls. find presentation attached). In 2007, Scouting
celebrates its worldwide Centenary. Every Scout in the world makes a
contribution towards peace to mark the 100th anniversary of Scouting,
through a "Gift for Peace". Amahoro will be the official gift for peace
of WOSM and WAGGGS.
We would like to link Amahoro with our
gift for peace, that is a National Peace March Perugia-Assisi, and
invite peace mediators from the Great Lake District Region -Africa to
come as testimonial in our march and in the Youth ONU organized in
parallel.
More over we would like to organized an Italian
delegation of Scouts, Guides and Leaders to join the International
Peace Camp that will be organized in Burundi by Amahoro.
We
would also like to give a contribution to the Amahoro project
development supporting their training session for peace mediators in
the region (Burundi, Rwanda, RDC).
d) What non-financial support does your organization need for CoP activities?
Being a voluntary-based organization, we need time : expertise and training
2. a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
In our country youth policies are not at the heart of government topics.
As
youth organization, AGESCI tries to respond to the educational needs
our young people face, with the aim to become good citizens. A culture
of peace is the big challenge we face in our society today. That is why
it is a crucial topic in our proposals.
b) What CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should do?
UN
should give support to young people to play an "active" role in the
promotion of CoP and in their full participation to the society. Young
people are not just a target group but an active and lively part of the
society. They are not just our future but our present al well.
OPTIONAL QUESTIONS
3.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any levels (UN, government, civil
society)?
Find clear and established places (commissions) for
young people in UN, governments and all structured bodies where
political decision are taken.
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
Using national newspapers, music and TV. For example MTV is a good channel to reach young people.
5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth and CoP, how should it be managed/administered?
Involving young people in it.
6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated?
The best places to reach young people are the school system and the non-formal system (youth organizations)
7. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP?
I know the Scout Movement and Girl Guide Movement that together reach 38 million of young people all over the world.
b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the questionnaire? Please specify.
