QUESTIONNAIRE
Firstly) Is your organization
youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly.
As concerns SCAF Youth Center it is both. We are a youth
development think tank and resource center led by youth. As concerns
my position at the National Institute of Education, Belarus Ministry
of Education it is youth serving. As for my music band ZIGZAG it is
both.
1. INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES
a)
If funds were available, what youth activities related to a culture
of peace (CoP) would you like to do as an individual? As an
educator I would develop and initiate corresponding educational
programs for secondary school students. As a youth NGO think tank
and resource center leader I would conduct research and develop
innovative community outreached youth projects. As the leader and
vocal of a popular Belarus rock group ZIGZAG I would organize
music concerts and festivals inviting other bands and thousands of
youth to contribute to COP b) What non-financial support would
you need to do these activities? Partnership with the European
youth counterparts. c) If funds were available, what youth
activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
The same as in item “a”. d) What non-financial support would
your organization need to do these activities? The same as in
item “b”.
2. SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND THE UN
a)
What changes in youth policies do you think the
government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
Based on the CIVICUS Index on Civil Society study my NGO SCAF
conducted in 2002 and 2004 we believe that youth civil society
sub-sector in Belarus needs more space (legal, fiscal, etc.). See
more in our CIVICUS Index on Civil Society Report at http://scaf.at.tut.by/
b) What CoP youth
activities do you think the UN should carry out? The UN should
provide financial support to the activities indicated in paragraph
1.
OTHER QUESTIONS
3. Do you have any suggestions or
recommendations for improving youth participation in CoP activities
on any level (UN, government, civil society)? We have vision,
strategies, methodologies and enthusiasm but lack resources to
implement these.
4. What could be done to improve/ensure
transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
Greater use of electronic communication, developing national
youth resources, providing free access to Internet to those who are
actively involved in promoting COP. 5. To ensure the best
possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how
should it be managed/administered? To allow youth NGOs to apply
for UN funding or at least encourage governments to engage youth
NGOS in the UN sponsored COP programs. 6. How can youth not yet
involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated to get involved?
WE can easily attract together thousands of young people through
organizing COP music concerts and festivals. This is often much more
effective then conducting lectures. 7. a) Which other
organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP? Belarus
National Association for Educational Innovation (NAEI) b) Would
you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the
questionnaire? Please specify. Most of the people are currently
on vocations. 8. My response to this questionnaire is my personal
opinion ? _ It is both. |
