Firstly) Is your organization youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly.
As
a Department of Social Work located in Jamia Millia Islamia which is a
central university funded by the government of India, it primarily
caters to the educational needs of the youth in age group of 18-25
years. The students on acquiring social work education at undergraduate
and postgraduate levels work with NGO’s and engage with children and
youth both male and female in communities, slums and villages.
1. INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES
a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a culture of peace (CoP) would you like to do as an individual?
Motivating youth to work as peace workers. Capacity building of youth to work as peace workers at the community level. Capacity building of other NGO functionaries and school teachers particularly at the community level. Development of teaching, training and information material (print and audio-visual) to develop culture of peace.
b) What non-financial support would you need to do these activities?
Sharing of intellectual resources and expertise.
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
Capacity building of youth to work as peace workers at the community level. Capacity building of other NGO functionaries and school teachers particularly at the community level. Development of teaching, training and information material (print and audio-visual) to develop culture of peace
d) What non-financial support would your organization need to do these activities?
Capacity building of the core team to organize these activities and sharing of expertise.
2. SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND THE UN
a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
Making
right to work as a fundamental right. Making community service an
essential component of education starting from school level. Redefine
youth in the light of international perspective.
b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN should carry out?
National and international youth exchange programs. Training of youth groups, particularly those in minority and marginalized.
OTHER QUESTIONS

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any level (UN, government, civil
society)?
Encouraging youth participation at international forum like UN, funding youth conferences and workshops etc.
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
Reputed
organizations and universities may be identified and involved in
screening organizations and disbursement of funds. These organizations
may also be involved in monitoring and evaluation of various
interventions.
5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be managed/administered?
Greater
involvement of stake holders, involvement of civil society institutions
and training youth leaders in organizational and financial management.
6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated to get involved?
Reaching
out to them with the help of NGOs is the best way. In India for example
are large youth population is located in rural areas which generally do
not get an opportunity for such participation.
7. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP?
There are many at the grass roots level in India.
