Answer given by CCD to the questionnaire 1.
a) If funds were available, as an individual I would like to write
article, essay, and stories focusing on Culture of Peace (CoP) and
publish these writings in newspapers and periodicals to encourage other
people for working for peace, tolerance, mutual respect and
understanding. Beside, as a director of a development organisation, I
will try my best to develop and implement a project for creating mass
awareness regarding this issue. 1. b) The non-financial
supports I need to do these activities are leaflets, handbills,
posters, brochure, booklets and other supporting materials related to
this issue as well as technical cooperation. 1. c) CCD has a
student and youth wing named as Bangladesh Advanced Students Alliance
(BASA). If funds were available, BASA would perform youth activities
related to a Culture of Peace (CoP) in most of the areas of northern
Bangladesh. We could implement the activities including debate workshop
and competition, quiz competition, discussion and networking meeting,
folk cultural functions, theater workshop, rally, procession, human
chain, preparing and disseminating IEC and BCC materials on youth
awareness of peace, tolerance, mutual respect and understanding. 1.
d) The non-financial supports our organization needs to do these
activities are leaflets, handbills, posters, brochure, booklets and
other IEC and BCC materials. Moreover, if possible to provide any
expert in this field to CCD for assisting and train up the CCD staff on
the issue. 2. a) The changes, which we think, the
Government/leadership in our country should make to promote a CoP, are
in thought, attitude, behavior and idea of tolerance, mutual respect
and understanding. Here young people have no voice in state
policymaking, democracy, good-governance and human rights issues. We do
not have youth parliament in our country. So the Government should
facilitate to form youth parliament to promote a CoP. 2. b) We
think, the UN should form a World Youth Parliament (WYP) to promote CoP
youth activities through forming unit of WYP in every country in the
world and arranging World Youth Festival in a suitable place and time. Optional Questions: 3.
The most important suggestion for improving youth participation in CoP
activities is that the UN, Government and civil society should take
initiative to involve more young people in policy making and
strengthening their role in national development from the root level to
the upper level. Beside, NGOs like CCD should take youth leadership
program. 4. To ensure transparency and flow of information in
promoting the CoP, the young leaders should be trained up with proper
approach of tolerance, peace, mutual respect and understanding.
Moreover, the young leaders should have opportunity of voluntary work
and service on this issue. Moreover, they can be trained up on creative
writing on this issue so that they write on this issues in the print
media. 5. To ensure the best possible return of a voluntary fund
for youth and CoP, it should be managed through charity organizations
and it could be administered by a world youth platform possibly under
the banner of WYP with the association of NGOs who are working with
youth people. 6. It will be easier to reach and motivate the young
people who yet to be involved in CoP activities through the local
development organizations who have been in the field addressing the
youth community in the respective country. 7. a) We know many other
organizations that work for a CoP, such as Democracywatch, YEPSA Brine
Pickles, Youth Voice, Rotaract Club. 7. b) We are willing to contact them with the questionnaire. 8. My response to this questionnaire is our organization’s opinion.
