1. a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a Culture of Peace (CoP) would you to do as an individual?
As a conscious/responsible citizen of the Nation everyone
should take effective measure to uphold the culture of peace of his own
country. In turn this will help restore peace to his neighbors and in
general to the globe. It is accepted that a culture of peace is a set
of values, attitudes and modes of behavior and ways of life. These
values are based on respect for life, ending of violence, practice of
non-violence, solemn respect for the principles of sovereignty and
territorial integrity. The motto of our constitution is “ Friendship to
all and menace to none”. ·
Organize the youth community and motivate them to take effective
steps to practice culture of peace. In this respect peace related
materials as declared in the UN charter and other organizations would
be published and disseminated among the Youth. ·
Organize seminars, workshops and lecture
sessions for the Youth to popularize the 8 core areas of a culture of
peace. · Establish Peace information center.
· Materialize the goals of
MDGs, which we think is the best way for the related purpose. · Organize Media campaign.
Implement the ideas/mottos of United Nations Decade on
Culture of Peace and Non-violence by face-to-face discussions, workshop
and seminars. b) What non-financial support do you need to do these activities?
Information on culture of peace through documents,
interlinking by national and global organizations/people, media
communication, support of experts and materials.
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
Through our organization we would perform above activities
and actions and also organize training sessions for youth relating to
culture of peace, non-formal education in youth related culture of
peace; involve the K-2 school teachers for peace education in the
classroom through iEARN network (www.iearn.org)
d) What non-financial support does your organization need for CoP activities? Ample supply of materials, documents, publications and communication tools.
2. a) What changes in youth policies do you think the
government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
The present national youth policy should be updated to
cope with the changing circumstances to address culture of peace.
Effective steps should be taken by the government to implement the
policies declared in the national youth policy. The points of culture
of peace as adopted by the UN should be incorporated in the national
youth policy.
b) What CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should do?
It is expected that the UN should make it a binding for
all member states to implement the charter of culture of peace. Also
the UN should request the governments of the member states to
incorporate the peace culture in the national educational curricula and
support the Youth Organizations for implementing such program.
OPTIONAL QUESTIONS
3. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for
improving youth participation in CoP activities on any levels (UN,
government, civil society)? For establishing culture
of peace by the youth, the government, UN and civil society has great
role to play. For the decision making on youth related issues youth
should be given due space to raise their voice by active participation.
Youth should be consulted and given proper respect to incorporate their
issues in the PRSP& MDGs.
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
Anything done or proposed for the materialization of UN
charter of culture of peace of youth should be made open to all the
youth and the related documents/instruments should be easily accessible
to the youth. 5. To ensure the best possible return of
a voluntary fund for youth and CoP, how should it be
managed/administered? If any voluntary organization is
provided with fund for youth activities this would manage by the
concerned organization. In this respect youth must be involved in the
decision making process of the organization.
6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated?
The youth who are not yet informed about culture of peace
should be given the information fast and be motivated to act as an
activist of the theme.
7. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP? To the best of our knowledge their is no such youth organization which is exclusively working on culture of peace.
b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the questionnaire? Please specify.
As and when we will come to know about any organization
working and advocating on culture of peace; it will be contacted by us
