QUESTIONNAIRE

Firstly) Is your organization youth-led or primarily youth-serving? Please explain briefly

Yes, Its a youth led organisation. Again, it serves the youth, with a focus on educating children in conflict areas, as a means of conflict transformation, fghting poverty and creating global citizens with a culture of peace.

1. INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES

a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a culture of peace (CoP) would you like to do as an individual?

The funds would be used to sponsor children in conflict and post conflict areas in Africa to go to school. Money would be used to build schools that children can attend for free, and to provide for feeding, accomodation and other basic rights.

The children would be involved in trainings of alternatives to violence through various forms like dramma, visual arts, music and trained in the cultural and social values of the respect for human rights and the need for co-existence.

b) What non-financial support would you need to do these activities?

Human resources e.g. teachers, support staff and professionals to provide the training and planning.

c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?

Training youth to resolve conflicts non violently.

Advocating for the rights of children in armed conflict.

Travel so as to meet other young people in other parts of the world; to learn other cultures, and other methods.

Writing news articles in the media that higlight issues that affect the rights of children in conflict.

Engaging in activities like peaceful demonstrations to draw attention of the government

d) What non-financial support would your organization need to do these activities?

Support from government; creating policies that protect children.

An active police force that is ready to protect the rights of children.

A sound and independent judicial system that is stern on violations of children's rights.

Experts from NGOs from other nations to teach us to run things.

2. SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT AND THE UN

a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?

My government should support the flourishing socio-cultural system in conflict resolution, especially in Northern Uganda.

Governemt should promote development programs in the Northern divide of the country to transform the conflict (building schools and univeristies, encouraging economic growth through enterprenuership and microfinance etc)

There should be punitive measures for anyone caught involving youth in violence (child soldier recruitment)

b) What CoP youth activities do you think the UN should carry out?

Training, Cultural exchange visits for youth, big global summits for youth in different regions.

3. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth participation in CoP activities on any level (UN, government, civil society)?

Yes, the governments and the UN should involve the youth in policy making, and in drawing programs that affect the youth in their areas.

Creating a cadre of youth ambassadors; to be ambassadors of peace.

4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?

The creation of mechanisms of accountability to all stake holders; regular reporting on the state of affairs in all areas of government. An improved communication through the use of all immaginable media (internet, radio and television)

5. To ensure the best possible benefit of a UN Voluntary Fund for youth on the CoP, how should it be managed/administered?

It should have representation from the youth on the board, and should be fair in representing all all the stakeholders (race, religion etc)

6. How can youth not yet involved in CoP activities be reached and motivated to get involved?

They can be reached through the media, and through the use of powerful figures or heroes  whom certain groups of youth identify with, who (heroes) can come in as role models, to motivate, empower and encourage the youth.

7. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP?

Makerere University Civil Peace Service Project, In Uganda - kampala.

b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the questionnaire? Please specify.

I would be willing to contact them. In fact, I am known to them.
