1. a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would you to do as an individual?
With
increased availability of funds, I will continue the efforts in
addressing the various social challenges of youth unemployment and
poverty, illiteracy and the increasing criminal and juvenile
delinquencies in our society, through the provision of capacity
building and training opportunities for young people to become
responsible, and active agents for social change and transformation. I
will lead the campaign for the promotion of ethical conducts of
compassion and concern for others, love, respect, forgiveness and
universal responsibility. I will take this campaign to youths in
various academic institutions in Nigeria, youths on the streets,
worship centers, elected officials, etc.
b) What non-financial support do you need to do these activities?
Non-financial
support required in support of these activities include opportunities
for training and learning, resources materials in terms of documents,
cassettes, films, CDs, a means of transportation to facilitate easy
movement around, partnership and linkages with other individuals and
organizations involved with similar interventions for the purpose of
sharing of knowledge, experience, ideas and solutions.
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
Our
Organization is already actively involved in the promotion of the
culture of peace through the following activities and programs:
Ø Interfaith dialogue and religious cooperation. Ø Poverty eradication through training, capacity building and micro-credit financing. Ø
Promoting peace education and free flow and exchange of information and
knowledge through the information and Communication Technologies. Ø
Leadership development and the promotion of democratic values,
including the sustenance of democratic institutions and structures. Ø Promotion of human rights initiatives and gender equality, among several other initiatives. With
increase funding, our organization will strengthen and expand its
program focus and coverage. We will embark on an aggressive and
sustainable enlightenment campaign, community mobilization and
awareness initiatives, through the production and distribution of
Information, Education and Communication materials, advocacy, education
and capacity building. We will also strengthen our existing linkages
and partnerships with individuals and organizations around the world
involved with similar efforts.
d) What non-financial support does your organization need for CoP activities? Africa
Christian Youth Development Foundation, in addition to the above,
requires non-financial support in terms of training and empowerment of
its members, educational resources such as books, tapes, stationeries,
computers and office equipments, vehicles, among others.
2. a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
The present situation whereby youths are not actively involved in
leadership and decision-making process is not a healthy development.
The government must wake up to its responsibilities and recognize the
fact that the youths are not only tomorrow’s leaders and custodians of
the future, but are active agents of social change and transformation
in the present. Young people are capable of leading initiatives and
proffering social solutions which when accepted in good faith and
translated into positive actions could become indices of authentic
growth and sustainable development.
b) What CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should do? The
UN is already doing some good work in this regard. However, if the UN
efforts to be more efficient and result-oriented, the UN must, as a
matter of fact, involve youths and youth organizations and associations
at the grassroots. The UN should be able to fund and train local and
grassroot youth organizations in running CoP programs such as: Ø Interfaith peace building Ø Human rights, democracy and social security Ø Education for peace and poverty eradication, etc. Most
UN activities are conducted at the international level, where majority
of the young people, especially those in the poorer nations, have no
direct access. The only way such youths can be reached with such
programs is by directly engaging the grassroot organizations that have
direct access to the youths and work with them.
3. a) Which other organizations do you know of, that work for a CoP? IIFWP-Nigeria, Teachers Without Borders-Nigeria, Project Hope-Nigeria b) Would you be willing to contact them or may we contact them with the questionnaire? Please specify. Please, you may contact them with the Questionnaire
