1. a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would you to do as an individual?
I will be involved in protecting, defending and promoting the human rights of the youths and the less privileged in Nigeria.
b) What non-financial support do you need to do these activities?
I
will want the translation of the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights(UDHR),African Charter, and other national and international
human rights instruments in major Nigerian languages and dialects
for Youth-oriented grassroots mobilisation and distribution.
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
My
organisation (GADYLP)will organise periodic training of trainers(TOT)
for workshop on youth and non violent approach to to conflict
resolution. The training will start from the crisis-prone areas of the
Niger Delta where youths are always go to violence and hooliganism even
with a slightest provocation.
d) What non-financial support does your organization need for CoP activities?
GADYLP
needs alot of technical support to facilitate our programmes on youth
and peace in the hard-to-reach-communities like the slums, the
ghettos,the shanties,etc.
-We may need flying boats to get to the river rine areas to preach peace.
-We
need avalanche of souvenirs to attract the youths of these poorest of
the poor communities.Souvenirs may include quality T-shirts,face
caps,key holders,food including light refreshments ,and take-home
package food etc
2. a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
-The Government in Nigeria should give scolarship and involve youths in all the activities of the Cop.
-The
government should select youths to serve in Cop youth-related
activities purely on merit,no tribalism,no nepotism or favouratism etc.
b) What CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should do?
-UN
should encourage youths from developing countries to participate in
international conferences related to Cop.UN should do this by
sponsoring the youths of these poor countries who can hardly boast of a
complete meal a day let alone footing the bills of an international
Conference on Cop-related issues that runs into thousands of Dollars.
-UN
should appoint youths as Cop Ambassadors, and accord them some
immunities nationally and internationally. This appointment mustbe on
merit.
-UN should set up a youth award for the culture of peace
where youths who have made creative contributions on the
field(Cop)should be honoured with financial rewards and a trip to the
UN secretariat perhaps a handcheck /photograph with the UN Sec.Gen.This
innovation will encourage youths to be positive and work towards the
award instead of being a ready-made tool for politicians in
violence, thuggrey ,assassination and other forms of dastardly acts.
-UN
should try to vote a reasonable fund to the youths from the developing
countries especially Sub-Saharan Africa who wallow in abject
poverty, penury, and utter deprivation. With hungry and misery etc as in
the case with youths of the developing countries youths are
easily pushed to violence.
3. To ensure the best possible return of a voluntary fund for youth and CoP, how should it be managed/administered?
-The
fund should be managed by an appropriate staff from the UN Youth Unit
or the co-ordinators of the Youths on the Culture of Peace project with
consultations from youth representatives elected from all the regions
of the world based on their track record on peace .
