1. a) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would you to do as an individual?
I
am an advocate for an ecumenical world. That is, a world of love, peace
and equal opportunities. Locally, i am using Sport (Football: the
number one sport in Africa) to bring Unity and love in Cameroon.( a
country with over 250 distinct ethnic groups) With my limited
resources, i try to organize football matches and some time Tournaments
between the diverse youths. I am preparing to organize an encounter
between the Christian and Muslim youths, on the 21st of September 2006.
In the cause of the game, while every body enjoys the sport as one
people, the bond of unity is installed. in addition, i paste numerous
messages around the field, addressing global issues such as,
HIV/AIDS,PEACE, UNITY, LOVE, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ETC. i am
trying to bring Unity in the midst of diversity. With the
availability of funds, i would have increase the level of my
activities, so that the numerous applicants for participation can be
met, so as to get more youths involved.
b) What non-financial support do you need to do these activities?
I need sport equipments and resource persons.
c) If funds were available, what youth activities related to a CoP would your organization like to do?
The
greatest problem of youths in our community is ignorant. There are very
ignorant of global issues (not part of the global village). We try to
sensitive the youths by organizing seminars, film shows, and cultural
evenings. At the moment we cannot afford to meet the financial
requirement to host the number of interested young people, especially
during holidays. That is; by being able to rent bigger halls (concerts,
film shows etc), hosting many participants in seminars.( using we host
only 10 youth during seminars). With available financial support, we
would be able to allow more youths to be involved.
d) What non-financial support does your organization need for CoP activities?
We
want to open a cyber cafe where the youth could be able to link with
other youths of the world, so as to gain opportunities like this. We
need material support such as computers, photocopy and fax machines
chairs and tables, telephones, and other communication gargets.
2. a) What changes in youth policies do you think the government/leadership in your country should make to promote a CoP?
In
Cameroon, the youth make up more that 75% of the total population. This
population of people have been relegated to the back. There are used as
political instruments by politician, there are unemployed, victim of
violence, false arrest, embezzlement, corruption, sexual abuse and
trafficking. They are HIV most fertile ground. Veiled in frustrated;
they have indulged in activities such as prostitution, theft, drug
abuse, alcoholism and juvenile delinquency. I will plead for Youth right and Democracy in Cameroon.
b) What CoP youth activities/initiatives do you think the UN should do?
We
need courage to make our Voices Head. Youth participation in CoP
activities weather at the level of the U.N, Government or civil society
should be Unique. We need to create a Global Youth Union, where we
could address our cries in ONE VOICE. That is, we need ONE MIC.
OPTIONAL QUESTIONS
3.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for improving youth
participation in CoP activities on any levels (UN, government, civil
society)?
4. What could be done to improve/ensure transparency and flow of information in promoting the CoP?
There
is need for the decentralization of your activities. This can be
possible by installing your branches in the different continents and
why not even at the level of each country represented in the U.N. Each
branch could consist a group of local staff that will be answered to
you at the headquarters. I am sure; this will better improve the flow
of information and create a stronger youth network that will also be
able to defend youth's
