PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKS: What
partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus
strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace? |
We
have established an active IFLAC PAVE PEACE Network in ten
countries, and the Directors have set up IFLAC websites in English,
Hebrew, Spanish, Romanian, Hungarian, etc. for dialogue, communication
and the spreading of the literature, education and the values of a
Peace Culture.
|
ACTIONS: What activities have
been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a
report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010
report.
|
We have already made a Report in 2005 on the IFLAC Activites.
In
September 2005 we organized an International IFLAC Congress in Los
Angeles, which was attended by participants from 17 countries. The
Panels, Dialogue Sessions, Artistic and Communication Sessions, as well
as the small groups discussions were very fruitful and we took
decisions for our goals in spreading the Culture of Peace and Harmony
during the next 5 years. A Video showing Pictures of this Congress can
be seen on our website: www.iflac.com
One of the most important
decisions at this Congress was to set up the IFLAC DAILY DIGEST on the
Internet, through Yahoo. The creation of this valuable DIGEST has
proved to be an extremely functional tool for dialogue, and for Bridges
of Understanding, Tolerance among people and nations, and for the
spreading of Peace Education. It reaches thousands of readers
everyday. and serves for the communication of peace views and opinions,
knowledge, information, as well as the spreading of artistic
peace culture, literature and poetry.
The various IFLAC Chapters
around the world, organize conferences, meetings, launching of
new Books on Peace, such as the recent book published by Prof.
Ada Aharoni and Dr. Sara Zamir on: "PEACE EDUCATION" - see
www.iflac.com/ada
One of the very successful activities
we had in Haifa, Israel, in the last two years - 2009, 2010 - is the
FESTIVAL OF PEACE STORIES. The latest one was celebrated in March 2010,
to celebrate International Women's DAY. 18 professional actors,
Storytellers, Writers and poets, told exciting and wonderful Peace
Stories about PEACE Heroines from all over the world: Israel,
Palestine, Egypt, China, Japan, India, US, South America, Scandinavia,
France, England and Russia. The Cinematheque in Haifa was fully packed
by women, children and men.

PROGRESS: Has your organization
seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain
of action and in your constituency during the second half of the
Decade? |
Our
IFLAC organization has made tremendous progress during the last five
years. In South America for instance, where Maria Cristina Azcona is
the Director of IFLAC and Susana Roberts is the Vice Director, IFLAC
PAVE PEACE is one of the best known and most appreciated peace
organizations. The concept of making peace through bridges of Culture
and Literature instead of fighting and wars - has profoundly appealed
to the South American people. The fact that the WORLD IFLAC Vice
President - Dr. Ernesto Kahan is himself from Argentina, though he
lives and works in Tel Aviv - has given a great boost to all the
wonderful activities of IFLAC Argentina and IFLAC South America.
|
OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?
|
We
have a great project entitled the SALAAM - SHALOM PEACE CULTURE TV,
which would start projecting peace education and artistic peace
programs in the Middle East, and then all over the world. We presented
our project to Mrs. Bokova, the Director General of UNESCO, but
unfortunately the response was negative. It is a great pity, for we
have enough excellent peace programs to last for at least two years,
and we are ready to provide them for free, and to help with their
projections.
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to
promote a culture of peace and nonviolence? |
We
will continue to try and interest the UN, UNESCO, the WORLD BANK and
other major public and private Institutions to invest in the PCTV - the
Iflac Peace Culture TELEVISION - SALAAM Project. It will function as
preventive medecine to all the violence we are witness to in the world
and on TV.
In addition, we will continue and expand our DAILY
IFLAC DIGEST on the Internet, to new targets, and in more languages.
Just now the languages are: English, French, Spanish and Hebrew.
The more people and nations we can reach the more peace culture
and harmony will be spread.
|
GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??
|
1.
In addition to the establishment of a major PEACE CULTURE
television network by satellite, as well as RADIO, INTERNET and
other Media, I suggest the following:
2. Amajor PEACE CULTURE
CONGRESS every year, in different parts of the world, that will present
the Peace Ideologies of Peace NGO's.
3. A PLEA by all the peace organizations in the world to the Media to: STOP VIOLENCE ON TV AND ON ALL OTHER MEDIA.
