2007:
The Council of Churches of Namibia with 28 NGO&'s kicked off a campaign to have gun-free zones established in large parts of Namibia. Pauline Dempers of the Namibia NGO Forum said the institutions would erect signboards at their entrances from the 21st of September on, declaring their premises free of firearms. Among the partner NGOs are the Legal Assistance Centre, the Working Group of Indigenous People in Southern Africa, UNICEF, the Breaking the Walls of Silence Movement, the National Society for Human Rights and the Namibian Community-based Tourism Association. Namibia, Malawi and Lesotho are the first countries outside South Africa in the region to embark on this campaign. The project is the brainchild of the organisation Gun Free South Africa.
Scouts in Namibia are raising awareness of domestic violence by training leaders and Scouts to deal with violence in their own lives. They are joining with millions of Scouts around the world on the International Day of Peace taking action within their communities through the Gifts for Peace projects and speaking out, sharing their thoughts and wishes through multi-media peace messages.

On a global level, reported events for the International Day of Peace continue to grow year after year (see the website listed above):
In the 2005 Report, 155 Peace Day events in 47 countries are presented.
The 2007 records show that:
* We had 623 commitments across the world
* 70 countries
* 225 cities (outside of the USA)
* 42 US states
* An estimate of nearly 500,000 participants
* An average of 500 people per event
2009 annual report listed 700+ events
