Participation in the observation of UN International Day of Peace, organization of Peace Cup competition among clubs, introduction of Certificate of Teaching Mastery in Peace Education, Conference of Religious Educators and Leaders on Peace, seminars on peace education, peace tours as well as introduction of radio show called the Voice of Teachers that periodically discusses the need for peace education in Nigeria and participation in organizing Global Peace Festivals.

Yes, there have been some progress toward the culture of peace in Nigeria.
- August 2009: Raphael Ogar Oko, Teachers Without Borders ’ Africa Coordinator, has just been named a winner in the Champions of Quality Education in Africa competition, sponsored by Ashoka’s Changemakers program. Mr. Oko’s project was selected from over 400 submissions from 30 countries. Winners potentially gain access to $60 million that the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Quality Education in Developing Countries (QEDC) Initiative are seeking to invest in education in Africa.
- TWB's involvement with Nigeria's Motor Park Literacy program has been a huge success, as it was recently selected as one of the 2009 100 Davis Projects for Peace by the Davis Foundation . As one of the 100 winning projects, Davis Foundation granted $10,000 towards further development including the trainers resource guide, needed supplies, transportation, and program expansion into three more motor parks: Karu, Dei-Dei, Area 1 and the initial Jabi motor parks in Abuja. Jane Chong from Duke University and Amarachi Igboegwu from San Francisco launched the program to bring free schooling to the children of motor park workers, as most of this demography cannot afford the luxury of formal schooling due to time and financial constraints. “The Wall-less Classroom” is more than a straightforward description of place; the name alludes to a teaching approach that relies on commonsensical fixed objectives and creatively relaxing constraints to increase the national literacy rate. Along side our content partner, The National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Eudcation (Nigeria), the program is working towards the MDGs and gaining localized media attention for its results.
- The extremely successful Voices of Teachers Radio Show (VOT), which began in February of 2009 as a radio based education program, has proven to be a major tool for discussing contemporary issues affecting teachers and education, as well as building sustainable partnerships for TWB in Nigeria. Since its start, the VOT has aired 16 episodes, which includes background information on TWB, a guest specialist discussing a particular educational subject, music and a phone-in session where listeners can provide feedback and entertain questions on issues discussed. Through the VOT, TWB in Nigeria is now being delivered online, onsite and on the air.
- TWB presented 3,000 volumes of books, journals, magazines and other educational resources on HIV/AIDS to the Management of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Gwagwalada, Abuja.
- Nigeria is officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria to work throughout Nigeria and looks forward to the development of 152 Community Teaching and Learning Centers and the mobilization of over 144,000 teachers/volunteers in Nigeria, with the support of government agencies and academia.
- Teachers Without Borders – Nigeria is pioneering the creation of a special educational program for the empowerment of the disabled to become skilled, self reliant and useful to the society. TWB has opened the Rivers Community Teaching & Learning Center at the Rivers State Secretariat Complex with a functional computer-training center. The Disabled Persons are to undergo the training at this center.
- TWB is represented in 18 Nigerian states and in several communities.
- Rivers State Library Board approved dedication of a 4000 books shelf capacity to HIV/AIDS, and with the mandate to TWB-Nigeria to source for books for placement at the library.
- Approval secured in Benue State for a CTLC and HIV/AIDS Library at Army School of Engineering.
- TWB established a Radio/TV show called “The Voice of Teachers”, and it shall be implemented and will facilitate the realization of our 144,000 Teachers for National Rebirth campaign. Planned programs at the University will be given wide publicity during the program. Also, it is our plan to sustain the program through adverts and messages from educational institutions, producers of products and services related to teachers and students.
- We shall be establishing a Center for Peace Education in 2007, and we are already developing a Peace Education Curriculum for Schools in Nigeria.
- TWB-Nigeria has spearheaded 7 major teacher professional training conferences dealing with subjects such as: the mobilization of teachers for national renewal, parent education, disability education, HIV/AIDS education, girls education, entrepreneurship development and capacity building.
- Distributed 200 computers for Community Teaching and Learning Centers.
- Established a temporary school in refugee camp serving 150 families in Calabar.

The obstacles are mainly in areas of institutions dedicated to the realization of peace. There are no specific government institutions promoting formal peace education and promoting activities for peaceful living.

We are planning the establishment of a Peace College, the training of Ambassadors for Peace, establishment of Community Peace Councils, Degree programs in Peace Education for teachers.

There is the need for the establishment of a Global Peace Council within the United Nations as well as the involvement of peace educators and religious leaders at global peace making and peacebuilding programs.
