Peace Education in the Colleges and Rural Community Groups

African Citizens Development Foundation as the name suggest has the challenge of initiating peace among citizens of Africa to be able to achieve its development work focused on citizens. The Foundation established the Citizens Comprehensive Colleges, two in Nigeria and one in the Republic of Benin and the Society for Shelter, Education, Food and Agricultural Development in Africa (ASSEFAD), a rural farmers group development movement. Our students and farmers have been integrated into the culture of peace and every Wednessday has been set aside as the "Peace Day" in our colleges. since 2001 the college has been promoting the culture of Peace and Non-Violence in those communities in the colleges proximity and insist on charity that must begin from home, amongst the students, teachers and parents.
Every student graduated from the CITICOLL is inducted as Life Member and Development Partner. We have graduated 453 of such in the last nine years who have went out with the culture of peace and nonviolece. These Life-Members have become disciples of peace and nonviolence at their various tertiary institutions and their duty posts now as workers.
Some of our Teachers have attended various programmes within and outside Nigeria including Finland and Rusia on Peace Education Training Programme during the last ten (10) years.

Yes, we have worked with thousands of cluster farmers in addition to our educational institutions and we have experienced tremendous growth in the culture of peace and nonviolence among our farmer members as we prepare them for this challenges regularly. Our original constituency is waxing stronger in this culture, students are relating with each other across ages without violence.

African Citizens development Foundationdefined culture as level of inner development, as a measurable level of human development. We belief that no two human beings have equal level of development, it varies from man to man, hence, we identified those human beings whose level of culture are reasonably high and encourage them to mentor those with low level culture. This realization came as we experienced often rivalry amongst people in our constutuencies which afforded us the knowledge that no two human beings belong to the same level even if they come from the same culutural background and ethnic group. This has helped us to tap into individual abilities to further promote the culture of peace and nonviolence.

We are working with hundreds of thousands of Rural farmers in Africa and they will continue to multiply in the coming years. We desire to promote this culture amongst them, we also will want to step up the culture among our students in our growing educational institutions, and among our Life-Members. In this we will need support in the areas of trainings for empowerment of our teachers and mentors to be able to offer more to further grow the culture of our constituencies in Africa. We will treasure the opportunity to have linkages with international networks to facilitate such empowerment.

First is for the practitioners to understand that culture is measurable, it varies from country to country, from ethnic group to another, from tribe to tribe and indeed from one man to another. When this is understood, it will become possible to understand individual race and their natural characteristic, so the tribe and even family traits and peace strategy can now be built to suits individual group and be able to adopt appropriate orientation strategies that will facilitate the growth of their culture of peace and nonviolence.
