PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

we partner with local women's organizations, with schools and educational institutions such as private schools, community centers and colleges, with municipalities, with co-existence organizations both in Israel, Europe and the USA, including co-existence groups that work with Palestinians

ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

we promote and teach non violent communication - listening and speaking from the heart - as a basis for connection between people and groups, as a basis for all relationships, as a basis for conflict resolution, as a basis for co-visioning, brainstorming and team work, for connecting between different cultures, religions, sexes and ages.
council is an ancient/modern way of communication, brought to its present form in the Ojai Foundation in California, and brought to Israel from there.
In our organization we work with teaching staff of schools, with youth workers, with children and youth, with psychologists, therapists, social workers, healers and more.
our aim is to help create an Israeli society with a different kind of communication, based on honesty, compassion, connection, a society that respects all it's inhabitants.
We have also given workshops and trainings to Arab and Jewish leaders with an emphasis on relationship.
We work with other organizations, combining our communication teaching with their projects in order to create a good foundation for work with youth, children, women and others.

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

We have seen changes in the youth we work with, with teachers in schools. We have worked to connect a Jewish school with an Arab school in Acre, in times when there was much violence (during the Gaza war) and saw the children connect to each other deeply. We have seen that the words listening from the heart have become more mainstream in the Israeli culture than when we began. we have seen a city that began with a few school children doing council that has broadened its connection with us to trainings in the municipality so that they can bring the work directly to the places needed in the city (Rishon Lezion), and now we have been invited to be a part of the "Non-Violent City" program in this city.

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

Our main obstacles are time and money within the institutions we work. Teachers are pressured and overworked and have little time for more professional trainings, and the school budgets and city budgets are tight at this time. We receive much positive feedback, yet it is difficult for institutions to bring us to work with them. Very few institutions say no because they don't believe in the work.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

short and medium term:
*We plan to work within the "Non-Violent City" program in more cities.
*We plan to find ways to connect businesses and industry to social and educational work in the community, creating strong partnerships.
* We plan to continue working in schools and with Jewish and Arab leaders in all fields, teaching communication and creating partnerships.
long term:
we would like to create a school of non-violent communication and council work - teamwork, relationship, intercultural work

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??

strengthening the network of local and regional organizations.
internationally supporting local work where needed.
