PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

• Participation in Platform for Culture of Peace (national Netherlands)
• Participation in (Guidance Group) Netherlands of the worldwide organisation People Building Peace.(international
• Particpation in Educators of Peace (national Netherlands)
• Participation in Worldmarch for Peace.

ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

Holland: 2004 Trust Virtues Project Netherlands:
• Translated and published in Dutch: The family guide, The educators Guide, youth cards, poster. Book and cards: Pace of Grace. Translation of the Leaders manual., sheets etc.
• Website www.deugdenproject.nl . incl. Virtue of the week.
• Extern Newsletter.
• Intern Newsletter for the facilitators.
• Written and published a Dutch book
• published till now about 20 articles in magazines,
• a weekly column in a newspaper in Suriname.
• A PR video for schools fron 5 minutes on www.leraar24.nl
• developed two exhibition of virtues, canvas 30x40 cm. Each one virtue card Pace of Grace. For free to expose.
• developed PR materials and a implementationrout for schools.
• Educate beyound 100 facilitators.
• About 25 active facilitators in spreading out the virtues way of life and education in two days (three or four evenings) awakenings, lectures and workshops in families, creches, child’s work beyound schooltimes, schools and since 2009 some companies shows interest to become the best working place by using the virtues approach with the five strategies to work with virtues. Also lectures/workshops in Conferences and Congresses about education, violence, bad behaviur etc..
• About 30 virtues websites
• Local virtue connection circles to support each other and to be a living virtue community.= creating a culture of peace
• Every year a deepening organised for deepening and for educating facilitators.
• Two master facilitators support the faciltators by coaching and by offering three days deepening during the year.
• One master facilitator is beginning to work in different countries in Europe: Germany, Belgium Dutch speaking part, Portugal, French and Switseerland. All is strating with a single person......
• Every year a conference for all people who are interested or a PR action all over the country on the same day by all facilitators.
• Offering awakenings in countrywide brochures for all schools by different organsiations.

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

Yes, we have. People report every time in words like: there is much more harmony and peace in my family, in my class, in my team. Lesser conflicts. A natural development of the moral compass by learning to choose consciously in different contexts.  It is a complete other way of communicating. I see now through behaviour and see the charactertraits. Inner strength and inner peace. Everybody feel heard by using a simple deep coaching (strategie 5) and feel supported by finding their own solution for the problem they are in. It is a peacefull way of handling in sorting out conflicts and differnt interests. No punishment needed by using consequences and Restorative Justice. Revenge is not an issue anymore. Recidive in old non-adequate behaviour is an exception. All speak about more selftrust, selfestimation and that leads to taking more responsibility and leads to participation in demoratic citizenship.

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

• The word virtue is old fashioned and has a bad connotation by the abuse of confidence in the past. Loyalty to duty or obedience to others did not bring the virtues more near to the people. No, it brought 50 million deads in Europe in WO II and a lot of deads after. It did not bring the last decades more justice in livinghood. So, the word virtue is in charge in Europe where personal responsibility took the place for dutyfullness. The right and the capability to judge on own intellect in moral questions is  present and a common way of communicating and educating is not an issue.Virtues you can abuse too, it is a great responsibility everyone has to take to work with virtues leading to a culture of peace. ( a terrorist for instance is also brave and take his responsibility..... but the outcome is not a culture of peace.
• Another difficulty is the connections everyone make with religion. And for sure: all religions works with virtues. Also not-religious communities. Virtues are universal values for moral behaviour. So it needs a revival. In Holland it is coming: three universities are working with virtues now!!! Give conferences, writing books etc. In advertising we see the use of virtues!!! In social talk on the radio too. Now the television..... in the next decade.
• The increase of pragmatism to have fun and sensation in life and the increase of outsiders without a job and the sense for direct satisfying needs  feels for many poeple in contradiction with a virtues based community.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

Short term:
• to  reach more and more people to use the 5 strategies and the vitues by going on with lectures, workshops and trainings.
• Professional PR materials for free to spread out everywhere the virtue-approach 2010
• Offering Conferences for managers of schools april 2010
• Offering Conference for managers of creches and  childcare sept. 2010
• To write articles in newspaper, weekly papers, magazines, schoolmagazines and on some places the virtue of the week with a daily common story etc.
• If sponsored: participation with a Virtue Project Stand in countrywide congresses, conferences, exhibitions for schools, child-care etc.

Medium term
• a central sekretariat with employies to promote and regulate all in administary way (instead of working as volunteers, like it is nowadays).
• to reach the politcians, the ministeries and the municipalities in order to get sponsoring for 1 projects in schools, 2 projects in pre-school and between-school and afterschool childcare 3 projects in cooperation with parents and other educators, involved in that school or care.
• Cooperation with universitie(s) or masterdegrees students for research in the pilots in school, childcare and parenting so the strategies get evidence based.
• A video for PR  for parents and a longer video for schools.
• a video for instruction of the five strategies with expamples for use for the facilitators
• The development of a ‘virtue box’ for schools with materials and examples of working with the strategies. A ‘virtue box’ for child care and clubs.
• The virtue of the week on boards in towns, busses, trains, platforms etc. All places where people have to come and have to wait so they can speak together about the virtue of the week.
• Connecting with companies to implement the virtue approach into the companies.
• to reach the politicians to use it in their way of communicating and living
• One master facilitator: spreading out the Virtues Project in more countries in Europe and support the start there.

Long term:
• To educate in Holland 75 facilitators around the country so local virtue connection circles will be reachable for everyone within one hour journeytime.
• Banners for tv, cinema etc.
• A video for companies.
• Virtue of the week in schools, youtcare, busses, railwaystations, supermarkets etc. All public rooms in municipalities, in courts etc.
• New materials for use in schools, chald-care and companies.  
• The trust leaded by people also outside the Virtues Project.

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??

Strengthed and supported by more and more people who feel responsible for living the culture of peace by using the 5 strategies of the Virtues Project like Barack Obama. When more and more people live by virtues and their highes values wenn they feel confident and selfestimating and have brought out the best in everyone, the climate of communication and decisionmaking will change immediatly, all over the world. .
