PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade? |
Yes. More visibility of peacebuilding projects so far. There are more concerted efforts in terms of the celebration of the International Day of Peace, as it is now popularized among youth. The use of social media such as facebook and other online platforms helps a lot in disseminating information about activities and events.
OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?
More cooperation among organizations in the same field. Lack of resources (training tools, expertise, international projects and good practices, financial) Still the lack of information dissemination of resources, news, etc on peacebuilding. Lack of cooperation projects to promote the mobility of young people to learn about different realities. There is no clear plan for what is going to happen after the Decade, although with or without it, we are sure to continue the peace advocacy we have started in our community. Lack of recognition of peacebuilding efforts from governments and media.
PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?
Continue working on the decade priorities after 2010. Renew partnerships with Muslim and Christian communities. Engage in more practical peace and human rights work with young people. Engage with international organizations.
Celebration of Negros Peace Week for the 6th year, in solidarity with the Mindanao Week of Peace.
GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??
By having a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence focal point - website like this... but not just during reporting period. - further develop the Culture of Peace and Nonviolence platform – a website like the decade-culture of peace, that will serve as a focal point, not just during reporting period.
By also getting some recognition and support for efforts of young people at the political level
Promote the program of action for a culture of peace and encourage governments to create their national action plans, including monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
