PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Northfield League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization dedicated to educating voters about civic engagement and issues
of public concern. We have had good response to our voter
registration actions, our candidates' forums, meetings on items
of significance to the community. This work is
always ongoing
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
Peace and non violence continue to be elusive in the political realm, but educating voters about ways to select candidates of their choosing and to lobby effectively for more peaceful and non violent means to achieve the common good is central to the League's mission.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
In the past 5 years the Northfield LWV has sponsored meetings about valuing diversity, nuclear power production and alternative energy sources, affordable housing, public education and the No Child Left Behind legislation, land use planning, US Patriot Act, health care, transportation policies and practices, and gun control, and hosted numerous voter service events including campaign forums, candidates' profiles, election publications, and educating election judges.
