PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
As
a non-governmental organisation with the aim to bring together
professionals in the field of planning on our annual conferences
ISoCaRP feels that it constantly contributes to a culture of peace;
specifically by organising Young Professionals Workshops (in 2005:
already the 15th one) until now supported by UNESCO, Dpt. SHS, we have
experienced peaceful interaction between all participants coming from
all parts of the world. We have from the very start promoted the equal participation of men and women.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
There are no obstacles in the sense of culture or background. There is no obstacle in getting people together. The
only obstacle is that in order to get people together and work in a
friendly atmosphere, they need financial and moral support. So far,
this has been made possible. However, due to a shift of priorities,
UNESCO has informed our society that it can no longer support these
workshops as of 2006.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
No specific actions.
We are a non-profit organisation and depend very much on the free time of our members.
Involving them in projects and events and having them work in worldwide network is a constant contribution to peace.
Information about our publications, events and collaborations may be found at http://www.isocarp.org.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
To
continue all (moral and financial) support in helping us to continue
our Young Planners Workshops. Many of our ex Young Planners still meet
and/or correspond and through participation to our Workshops they have
learnt to appreciate each other not only in a professional way, but
also acceptance of each other culture. Some have become high qualified
experts and through them, we feel we have contributed to a basis of
peace. Establishing world wide professional relations is one of THE
important key-issues to peace in the world.
|
PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
Partnerships with several other International Organisations and Memoranda of Understandings have been signed. Our National Delegations in 70 countries are our networks.
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
New
projects, such as an Urban Task Force, involving Young and Experienced
Experts to work during 2-3 days in a tight team on specific
urban/environmental issues.
