PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

Our work, which has been going on for more than ten years has focused on the following:
1. Conducting of Self-Transformation Seminar to various organizations, NGOs, schools, religious organizations, companies, for the purpose of bringing inner peace as a foundation of outer peace.
2. Establishment of schools founded a culture of peace and love; where there is no competition or use of threat to motivate; where children are taught conflict resolution
3. Publication of "Peace Ideas", a quarterly bulletin on practical ideas for inner and outer peace
4. Networking and cooperation with various other organizations that promote peace and human transformation

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

Limited number of facilitators to conduct seminars; limited number of teachers who have gone through the self-transformation process deeply. There is a need to widen and deepen the training program in order to accelerate the effectiveness of the work

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

We have been continually conducting seminars to groups within and outside of the Philippines, including to mixed religious groups in Mindanao in order to foster better inter-religious understanding. In the schools, we have regularly asked students to present dramas that exemplify effective conflict resolution approaches. Publication of Peace Ideas continues.

Peace Ideas: a quarterly publication on inner and outer peace by the Peace Center of the Theosophical Society in the Philippines.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?

Focus on public education; intensify the development of approaches on peace education through the schools; promote and fund pilot efforts in various countries.
