PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

* Participation in conferences, public seminars and programmes of capacity building and development of the Iraqi civil society.
* Promotion of women and enhancing their role in society through the national elections.
* Organizing a workshop for homeless children.
* Holding educational and cultural seminars.

Measures of success:  
 
* Developing training programmes.
* Conducting polls.
* Special remarks and comments.
* The viewpoints of women and specialists.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

* Absence of security and order.
* Poor participation of women.
* Families are usually preoccupied with their own concerns and affairs and do not effectively take part in the activities of the organization.
* Lack of funding and financial support.
* Lack of adequate international telecommunication media

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

The organization has been working for one year and a half, in which the following has been achieved:
* Organization of a local conference.
* Communication with families and organization of awareness-raising sessions
* Participation in specialized conferences and seminars.
* Development of a rehabilitating programme for women
* Organization of educational and cultural training programmes for women on various fields, especially the use of computers.
* Distribution of books and magazines to raise the awareness of children aged between 6 and 9.
* Development of a project that aims to design and execute educational programmes and games for children.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?


PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?


PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)?

We are thinking of setting up several branches in the other governorates of Iraq.
