PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
As our work is project-based, progress will be accounted for by project.
1. Have You Got a Minute? (Tolerance, Understanding) 2. European Youth Exchange (Democratic Participation) 3. Children and Youth for Peace in Colombia (Peace and International Security) 4. Voices from South Africa (HIV/AIDS, Tolerance, Understanding) 5. Fortel Verda/Tell the World! (Tolerance, Understanding) 6. Voices World Wide (Tolerance, Understanding) 7. Southern Africa Survival Project (Human Rights) 8. Globalisation Conference (Sustainable Development) 9. Youth and Democracy in Africa (Participative Democracy) 10. World Voices Positive (HIV/AIDS, Human Rights)
(In progress)

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
WVN
is a small organisation with no permanent staff, no permanent funds and
no office. Lack of stable income has therefore been a challenge.
Likewise,
the strength of our international committee, with volunteers living in
various parts of the world, depending on e-mail, is also partly a
weakness, in that we rarely get together in person to strengthen the
group and exchange ideas more freely.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
Again, WVN will report by project.
1. Have You Got a Minute? (Tolerance, Understanding) 2. European Youth Exchange (Democratic Participation) 3. Children and Youth for Peace in Colombia (Peace and International Security) 4. Voices from South Africa (HIV/AIDS, Tolerance, Understanding) 5. Fortel Verda/Tell the World! (Tolerance, Understanding) 6. Voices World Wide (Tolerance, Understanding) 7. Southern Africa Survival Project (Human Rights) 8. Globalisation Conference (Sustainable Development) 9. Youth and Democracy in Africa (Participative Democracy) 10. World Voices Positive (HIV/AIDS, Human Rights)

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
Recognising
that youth aged 0-18 years accounts for almost half the population in
the world, and more than half in many countries, the UNSG should
- give more support to international youth democratisation efforts such as the International Youth Parlament -
give youth more permanent presence and representation in the UN,
perhaps by establishing a UN Youth Council, advising the General
Assemnly and the SC on youth issues - promote sanctions in the SC
for countries which do not justly ensure the rights, freedoms and
responsibilities of children and youth
|
PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
- Skolenettet (A National School Network) - Global.no - The Norwegian Peace Alliance - The Norwegian Association for Children’s and Youth Organisations (LNU) - Forum for Development and Environment (ForUM) - Red Cross United World College - United World Colleges Network (UWCs) - World Voices African Network - Several Norwegian NGOs (Changemaker, PRESS, Save the Children, Involve Yourself, others)
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
- Expansion of membership in Norway and elsewhere - Consolidation of WV African Network - Promotion of the creation of other regional World Voices Networks - Continuous projects to encourage and support youth in their own projects and initiatives
