Agenda for Community Development- AFCODE's strategic area of Interest are
1. Outreach : AfCODE Theatre Factory (Using Theatre to Teach Tough Teen Topics )
The
Factory is a cross-community theatre group where youth interact, meet
and understand together. As a thirty-four member group, we use
songs and drama to highlight issues and undertake intelligent
conversations about relationships of drugs, and youth violence,
in a friendly atmosphere. The Theatre Factory is about friendship and
it is about drama. It is about youth handling themselves as
persons and developing their potentials. It is a tool we are using
in building team and trust. It gives us opportunity
to free our imagination and make our dreams come true. Our
regular experience at The Theatre Factory has helped us face situations
of conflict.
2. The Painting for Development. Posters Designs
and Mural painting are fantastic ways we use to get the word out
about our mission and to get youth excited about our programs and it is
evident that making our statement larger than life and permanent is a
sure best way to make an impact and get youth thinking positively.
Past Outreach:

3. Skills Development and Empowerment The
setting up of the Skills Development Centre is a very
important component of the Agenda for Community Development that
focuses on building capacity among teenagers and adolescents and
empowering them to be learners,
developers and entrepreneurs. The initiative is based on the strategic
framework aimed at realizing the potential of
young people as leaders.
Specific Skills Areas: - Computer Word Processing Desktop Publishing - Basic Secretarial Course - Computer Repairs
Since
direct face to face contact with community residents who are
experienced professionals and artisans is necessary to secure their
participation, the centre serve as the springboard for broader
community participation and better use of public and private resources.
In Ifako Ijaye Local Government Area alone 40 boys and girls have
passed through the skills development center. We do not
save all who came to us but most of the time we hit the mark. We hit
the mark as no other training program has done in the history of the
local government area and the success of our program will surely be
replicated in other places.
4. Training of Trainers in Conflict Management and Mediation. There
are evidences to suggest that the number of children and young people
living in vulnerable situations as far as cultism and violence are
concern are growing. This is particularly true for urban areas, where
street life in all its aspects, including cultism and violence is
becoming the norm for a growing number of children and young people.
