PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

Not much.
1  (a) Long-drawn wars, the type we had in Rwanda/Burundi in the last decade of the last decade of the last century were not commonplace in the first half of this decade. But the Darfour crisis, sporadic wars like skirmishes in West Africa and increasing displacement of people due to socio-political problems in many African countries nearly tend to suggest that many African societies are pushing more towards violence than they are towards a culture of peace.
.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

1 Existence of violence-inducing situations which are mainly socio-economic (More information on this below).
2 Attempts by given groups (ethnic, religious etc) to dominate others.
3 Political intolerance.
* Tension is created where and when people are deprived particularly economically and socially.
* In virtually all areas where peace has either been threatened or has actually been sent packing; contest for economic is usually at the bottom of the oil in Nigeria's Niger-Delta, diamond in Liberia/Sierra Leone, land in Rwanda/Burundi;  and in various communal clashes that have broken out in Nigeria.
Thus, the major obstacles towards a culture of peace are:
(a) decreasing opportunities for citizens to have meaningful life and attain self-fulfilment
(b) refusal of  people in privileged positions to give up power even when they have outlived their usefulness
(c) tight grip of a tiny minority to dominate the landscape to the detriment of the majority
(d) lack of equity in the distribution of resources and opportunities.
(e) inefficiency of or delay in the dispensation of justice - especially when it comes to the less-privileged

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

* Researching into conditions that can induce violence.
  * Organising programs and seminars/collaborating in efforts at resolving conflicts.
  * Conduct workshops on the need to live in harmonious relationships .
  * Written and published works on Reliogious Tolerance/Nation Building; Global Ethics etc that touch areas of possible conflicts.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?

Advice
*Work harder on reducing manufacturing and distribution of arms and ammunitions.
*To encourage heads of governments to be more equitable and just in the governance of their countries and people.
*Encourage the setting up of Peer Group Pressure mecahnism where governments that violate rights (economic, social, political, human etc) are not just isolated but are induced in every way possible to toe a more humane and civilized path.
*Open up the political landscape to give room for greater participation

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

Engaged in conflict resolution sisngly and in collaboration with CHRRD
