PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Progress
in Europe want well in 2001-3. Even thouth we did little outreach, our
events were well attended and many especially spiritual and personal
growth centers were interested in our lectures and workshops. The
Network spread almos of its own accord from Holland to Belgium and
Germany. In 2004, people's attetnion became rivetted to 'the bottom
line" and day to day living, due to greowing social divisions, because
of the focus on terrorism. Many of the centers which had been
interested in our work, closed of changed their focus.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
We
had planned to undertake a lobby of governments at the UN in New York
on peace values and norms, which benefit all and harm none (referred to
as all-win norms and values). All our activiteies were thwarted here in
the US, dure to the fear and the nuisance policies resulting from the
Patriot Act. Pople in general were held up at the borders, especially
those who were belonged to international organizations. A number of my
colleagues, attempting to attend international conferences were held up
at the airopor for 'random baggage checks' until the plane had left and
their tickets wer not reimbursed. Many of our collegues' withdrew into
a shell of activities aimed at keeping a low profile, such as joint
'celebrations' for the Day of Peace.
After the US elections, a
new wave of despair seemed to take over in the US and in a lecture tour
in December, there was a renewed interest in peace activities, which
benefit all people and harm none, even though these are seen as
subersive, because the root causes of terrorism are of course also
considered in an all-win approach.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
A. BOOKS ANS HANDBOOKS We have books and handbooks, which form a basis for lectures and workshops. - 'The Year 2000 - Cossroads for Humanity: about a self-financing work Marshall Plan (available in Enblish and Dutch) -
'Samenzwering Samenspel' (avialabel in Dutch, Englsih manuscript and
international rights still available). This is a novel about the
political, economic, psychological and spiritual principles which are
enabling globalization the forces which is creating difficul to
penertrate powerstructures and how the first can take over without
increasing conflict. - 'A Listening of Financing Mechanisms [for
development] and Approaches to their Implementation'. This consists of
the work of the 80 NGOs which attenden the NGO Task Force on Financing
during the 3rd PrepCom for the Earth Summit. It was recently updated
upon request of the UN Secretariat, which made it available to the
Wiser Institute which was preparing background information for
delegates for both the Conference on Financing for Development and Rio
+ 10. - 'A World Citizens Handbook' with personal and group actions
to empower us as world citizens, interested in building a global
community, based on unity in deversity and the all-win principle. This
is available in Englis, Dutch, German and Chinese. - 'Fearless.
Oridnary People Doing Extraordinary Things in a World Gripped by Fear'
(In the process of being published). This novel/thriller deals with the
politics of fear, as it is practised in countries, democratic and more
monolithic, and how these politics can be transformed, by ordinary
people, using scientific insights into evolutionary principles, and
moder telecommunications without increasing conflict. The objective is
again a global community based on the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights and international law. It lists many extraordinary things
already being undertaken by individuals and NGOs (written in English,
not yet available in other langauges).
B. LECTURES, WORKSHOPS, AND ALL-WIN THINK TANKS on -
Thoery and practice of all-win relationships (which don't harm people
or the Natural Order), and how such relationships can be achieved in
people's personal lives, within organisations and at the world level,
using scientific, economic, political, spiritual and psychological
insights. - Think Tanks which look at problems from both a factual
and experiential point of view of all parties concerned. These think
tanks are organized ad hoc, during international conferences (often in
combination with a key-note address) and which are now beginning to be
held in Holland on a monthly baiss. The objetive of such think tanks is
to: * Help participants to apply the all-win principle to their personal relationships *
To deal with social, economic and political situations at the national
and international levels and to submit possible all-win solutions to
those who can use them. * To support governmetns seeking to solve
global problems at the UN as a way of familarising them with the
advantages of the all-win principle (which is also the foundation of
the Declaration of Human Rights) and its many uses. * Eventually to
create a network of All-Win Think Tanks meetiong concurrently with
Governments at the UN to support them in the search for a strong
consensus. (The idea is to create a new xonstructive democracy whereby
Governments are supported by citizens worklwide in their search for
solutions which can benefit all, without harming nature. * The
All-Win Network has an Education Action Group, which is interested in
introducint the All-Win Perspective in (formal and other forms of)
education.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
UNESCO points out that 'since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the mind of men that te defenses of peace must be built'
Our
UN work in the field of values and norms has not progressed easily. The
Human Rights Conference foundered on this subject. This is
understandable since politics has not yet empraced an inner
understanding of how people respond inwardly to different
relationships. Both facts and how the facts are experienced are
important. The All-Win Relationship takes both into consideration.
The all-win relationship is characterized by: 1.
each party feeling assuered of the right and ability to develop in ways
they themselves see as important, (providing people and the natural
order are not harmed in the process) 2. support (if only mentally) from all those around one, as one seeks to embark on this process; then 3.
an atmosphere of goodwill and cooperation can come about that is not
possible where there is fear of being lorder over by others. Resulting
relationships are durable and strong foundation stones for a global
community based on unity in diversity.
We are eager to work with individuals, NGOs, Governments and teh UN to: - help introduce an all-win apporach in education, -
help create think tanks which are porficient in implementing an all-win
approach to problem sovling in NGOs and community groups; - supply, where we are able, all-win solutions to problems with which governments are working at the UN; and - to work with fellow NGOs to * create an All-Win Think Tanks at the UN during international conference, working closely with * a network of All-Win Think Tanks interationally during UN Conferences
We
are very much aware that the world is huge and that a global community
based on human rights and international law is only possible if we pool
our experitse.

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
We
are working together with individuals and organizations in Holland,
Germany, Belgium and the US and expanding. We are eager to work
together with others.
When you work on a basis of each doing
what they are best at and working for the common good (an all-win
relationship) each works from a positon of greatest strenght and
goodwill and outcomes tend to be sustainable.
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
We plan to: -
Publish books, including novels which spark poeple's imagination as
they learn about how interantional community processes work; and
handbooks which show which actions they can take as individuals and
organizations; - Develop our understanding and ability to implement the all-win principle - Work more closely with other NGOs all over the world - Develop a network of think tanks wich can be activated via the website to hink along with governments as they problem solve.
