PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Yes,
our approach integrating justice and peace issues through human rights
education brought among grass roots communities, Dalit rural people and
self-help groups greater awareness and prevention of violence and
violations of human rights

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
Lack
of governance, enforcement of law and order, feudalistic cast structure
of Indian society especially in rural areas and Colonial methods of
oppression still continuing in Police, judiciary, etc. Lack of
Education to change the mindset of people resisting to accept and
implements human rights. justice and peace is the worst obstacle
followed by obsolete social customs and beliefs still followed blindly
by people. Lack of funds to sustain our work.

ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
Educating
people on human rights, democracy to ensure respect human dignity in
society which will bring peace, equity, and social justice. Lectures,
seminars, Paralegal training, publications of audio tapes, video cd's,
etc. organising cultural programmes
|
ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
All
Governments should launch human rights and peace education programmes
in schools and train teachers in non-violence and peace education .
Bridging the digital divide and encourage online education to reach
wider groups of people

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
Networking
among NGO's in Tamil Nadu, international networking include organizing
educational tours to visiting American University students, my lecture
visit to USA sponsored by Presbyterian Church USA - Global Ministries
on Peace & Human Rights addressing Universities, Church Groups,
International Relations Associations & Clubs in the States of North
Carolina, New York upstate- Buffalo, Ithaca, St Paul in
Minnesota-Wisconsin, Seattle-Washington, Florida, etc. during
October 2004

PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
International
conference on Teacher Training on Human Rights and peace with
collaboration of UNESCO CHAIR in the University of Connecticut Global
Studies Dept of Malaspina University in Western Canada sponsoring
students to study poverty eradication , development and peace by
working at Delta training centre in Tamil Nadu, Semester at Sea
Students of the University of Pittsburgh doing work projects with us in
Chennai and Delta Training Centre.
