PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
SAH
has undertaken international Programs in Regions where culture of peace
has been tested through long time:in Afghanistan ,where we have built
an up-to-date School for Nurses in the domains of Education and Woman`s
Health.
Also we have supported a School Organization in S.India in a
very poor region of this country and we have studied and made pilot
programs in Cameroon under a very ambitious title :<Good
Governance-Rich People>.But the headquarters of our Civil
Society-Organization are located in Athens -Greece,in a country which
though it is a full Member of EU is surounded by the Balkan
countries with critical and unstable culture of peace conditions.We
have created NGOs networks and we have made successful efforts for
stabilizing culture of peace philosophy and plans of action.Also Greece
has cultural and social bones with countries of the Middle East,an
other sensitive region for the culture of peace.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

1.The lack of Education for Peace among the people of the above mentioned countries.
2.The complet lack of strong social bones.
3.The wrong and fuzzy information
4.Lack of transparency in their Governments.
5.The absence of Women in many Centers for Decisions

ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

SOCIAL AID OF HELLAS has promoted major Programs towards the culture for peace.
A.The logo-program<A Society for All Ages>, where we have
made specific and concrete actions for active participation of all Ages in the culture for peace.
B.The
program<Harmonization of the Generations>An ambitious program
started many years ago with the approval of the Unicef and presented as
a Workshop and a Round Table Discussion in the Scond Assembly of Ageing
in Madrid(2002).In this Program we have the scientific collaboration of
the Western Michigan University.
C.SOCIAL AID OF HELLAS has been
established national and international coordinating mechanisms for
women and groups of population living under social exclusion.Our
program strategy for a Society toward a Culture of Peace, Cohesion and
Social Stability is based in five -corn pillars:
1.Education of Peace and Sustainable Development
2.Health with the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and the Platform of Action
3.Promotion of the MDG(Millenium Development Goals)in our global society
4.Human Rights for All Ages
5.Promotion of Habitat II Programs for clean and safe global cities

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
1.Strengthen the Civil Society Organizations
2.Promote specific programs of Culture for Peace in Schools and in the Long life Education-courses
3.Adopt
programs against Domestic Violence(SOCIAL AID OF HELLAS is a
Leader-Partner in the European Program -SOCRATES-CLIMBING-UP- Against
Domestic Violence.
4.Organize in every country a Caucus of Civil
Society Organizations for watching on a continuous base the promotion
of culture of peace through all aspects of society

networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the

PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
Translating
the 8 Development Millenium Goals into the Greek Language and with the
permission and Auspice of the Ministry of Education distribute them in
Schools .
Organize Conferences focused on subjects related with culture for peace.
Promoting women-programs between Balkan and Middle East countries promoting the culture for peace
Teaching new coarses on the Diplomacy of Natural Disasters
and the vital role of women for promoting the culture of peace through the development of Humanitarian Programs
