PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

Development of landmines risk education and victim support in Rwenzori region, Western Uganda.

Completion of ten-year peace education programme in Belarus and satisfactory evaluation visit two years later.

Completion of seven-year peace education programme in Ukraine and satisfactory evaluation visit two years later.

Development of peace education for young people in Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Several school mediation services developed in UK.

Development of village & school peace clubs in Uganda.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

Lack of governments' understanding of peace education.

Sporadic funding.

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?

When post-war reconstruction is undertaken (e.g. by UNDP) there should always be a programme of social reconstruction (peacebuilding).  Whatever the duration of the physical reconstruction project, the social reconstruction should be planned and financed for at least ten years.
