Culture of Peace
Report on activities by the NGO-UNESCO’s Liaison Committee

NGOs maintaining official relations with UNESCO attach great importance to the Culture of Peace since the Organisation began in 1945. " Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed".

NGOs contributed and still  work actively for the International decade for a culture of peace and Non-Violence for the children of the World( 2001-2010).
In  the year 2000, they circulate in massive numbers the " Manifesto 2000, for au Culture of Peace and Non-Violence", edited by UNESCO with millions of signatures

In 2002, The NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee in partnership with the UNESCO Coordination for a Culture of Peace launched the project "Heritage for a culture of Peace" and edited a brochure in three different languages. The objective of this project was to capitalise on local heritage as an awareness raising and action tool for a culture of peace. It raised a vivid interest among NGOs.

The International Conference of NGOs held in December 2003 confirmed, if necessary, the NGOs’ commitment. A large number of them  carried on  further actions  in order to impulse new trends for a universal culture of peace replacing for ever the culture of war.

On 22 November 2004, The Liaison Committee organised an International Day on Culture of Peace whereas the Working group followed up its work.
