undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

A
Peal For Peace, Inuvik, Northwest Territories, held a noon hour
ceremony at the Jimmy Adams Peace Park, which included a short program,
including music performed by students of the Sir Alexander Mackenzie
School and one minute of silence, ending in a "joyful noise" at 12:00
noon, (bells and sirens, singing and Inuvialuit Drumming). A donated
lunch followed the program and a collection was made for UNICEF.
Everyone attending was invited to sign the banner. (2003)
Canadian
Peace Alliance and Peacetalk, Medicine Hat, Alberta, joined
International Peace Day events across Canada. Drummers were invited
along with the Social Justice Tea Party folks to share a common
interest in peace within ourselves, our nation, and the world. Events
began at 6 pm, in Riverside Park near the band shell, and participants
brought picnic to the park, extending this invitation to the people
with whom you work and play and pray. "We hope to find peace within
ourselves and send good vibes out to the community." (2004)
Our
Lady’s Missionaries held a noontime moment of silence, followed by
sounding a gong, a Eucharistic celebration, and Prayers for Peace, In
Toronto. (2004)
Peace the 21st, a project of the Fellowship of
Universal White Light, holds meditations for the equinoxes and
solstices at its headquarters and throughout the world, and focused its
Circle of Light Healing Meditation for the International Day of Peace.
(2003) Toronto residents and area visitors were invited to join at
their home office for vegetarian potluck, followed by meditation, on
the International Day of Peace. (2004)
TakingITGlobal (TIG), an
international organization led by youth and enabled by technology,
headquartered in Toronto, connects youth through its internet site,
which listed events around the world on International Day of Peace,
2004, and posted discussions on the topic. TIG is a partner of GYAN-
Global Youth Action Network. (2004)
Unified People Communities
(A Community Initiative for the People by the People), at Galt Gardens,
Lethbridge, Alberta, on Tuesday September 21 2004 11:00pm to 4:00pm,
there was live music, prayers and stories. At noon all were asked to
observe this day by participating with one minute of silence, followed
by a rally and celebration of International Day of Peace. (2004)
URI
Toronto CC held a workshop on Appreciative Listening for Peace in
Toronto on September 19 for the International Day of Peace. (2004)
Cercle
de Paix / Circle of Peace is non-profit organization, whose mission is
to organise a Canada-wide IDP initiative, and promote the "culture of
peace" by organizing cultural activities for IDP, by developing TV
& Film productions (live-shows and documentary, an Internet site,
music CDs & DVDs), and various Peace teaching aids. They translated
the PTP website’s mayor’s IDP proclamation and with a group of citizens
got the Montreal boroughs council of the "Plateau Mont-Royal" to adopt
a resolution proclaiming September 21st, the "International Day of
Peace." (2004)
