PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Yes,
our organization (PDAP) has tried to empower the community people,
especially the women and girls to achieve their rights through group
formation, education, primary health care, legal aid support and
awareness raising. Those families are now have been developed their
livelihood through income generating activities and dominating
attitudes of male members are now reducing. But still it will take time
to make our society as a gender balanced society.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
Poverty, over population, lack of education and unemployment are the main obstacles of the progress.
Sometimes muscle man and money collector threat the community people against the development activities.

ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
First
we organized some group leaders, who could lead their members and
provided leadership training for them. Then we have established
community based "Change agent" group (in each group 5-10
members), who are working for their community safety and nonviolence.
PDAP
has organized an adolescent girls forum. through this forum girls are
learning on legal rights and cultural drama, songs and awareness
raising technic.
PDAP is thinking to observe the day September 21 for focusing the issue through drama and folk songs.
At
this event, a girl leader (from Muslim camp) was speaking in front of
some journalists. She was explaining about their existing situation in
the camp area, specially the condition of the women and girls which is
very much inhumanic situation. She also explained that although they
are living more than 40 years in this country but still they do
not get their fundamental rights of the country.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
We
would like to request to the Secretary General to please do something
for the women, especially in the underdeveloped countries, who are
suffering a lot by violence, torture and passing life with unsafe
conditions.
As PDAP is working with Bihari refugee camp area,
who did not get Bangladeshi citizenship yet and living very inhumanic
condition.

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
PDAP
is involved with various network based organization such as Coalition
for Urban Poor (CUP), Breaking the Silence (BTS), Bangladesh Habitat
Council, Initiative for Promotion of Women Enterprise and Bangladesh
Human Rights Commission.

PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
We
like to establish a cultural team, who will be able to demonstrate
differnt issue based information through drama, song, film and other
role play.
We like to create some community based training
centre and library with some modern equipments (such as Computer,
photocopy machine, Electronics media
