ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

2009:

Barcelona: Hundreds attended a Peace event featuring famous Catalan artists and authors, and the Interfaith choir “Coral Interreligiosa per la Pau”. More. 50 gathered at the Encaix, a memorial for bombing victims, by Margarita Andreu for songs, poetry, music and speeches.

Cadiz: 600 students from Sotogrande International School celebrated Peace Day by selecting a country, researching and presenting it’s culture, and how they celebrate or promote Peace to other students. One student sang “Bbhebak Ana Kteer”, an Arabic song, while her Israeli friend played the drums for it.

Gernika-Lumo: Three monks worked together on a single mandala at the Gernika Peace Museum, where there was free admission.

Terrassa: 100 attended an interfaith event with prayers, organized by the local Bahai community.

2007:

Avalon Project Initiative for a Culture of Peace held a 75 minute vigil for peace with people from different religions. The UN Secretary General‟s message was read, as were other texts and works about peace and culture. Groups met in Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, and Granada throughout the day on the International Day of Peace.

Baha’i Center of Barcelona Three hours of music, poems, and reflections for Peace were shared among people from diverse beliefs and faith on 29 September to celebrate the International Day of Peace.

Inter-religious Group – Prayers for Peace observed the International Day of Peace in Zaragoza with songs, a reflection on Peace and Peace movements, reading texts of different religions, the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, and concluding with a blessing.

Spanish Association of Yoga Practitioners (AEPY) in the village of Castril performed 108 minutes of yoga exercises, breathwork, and meditation on World Peace. A talk was given on the relationship between Yoga, Health, and Nature, and its importance in the search for Peace.

UNESCO Center of Catalonia and United Religions Initiative Europe A special evening of prayers dedicated to “Peace to the World, Peace of Mind, and Peace in Our Hearts” took place in Barcelona 20 September with the participation of representatives from several different religious traditions.

In the 2005 Report, 155 Peace Day events in 47 countries are presented.

The 2007 records show that:
* We had 623 commitments across the world
* 70 countries
* 225 cities (outside of the USA)
* 42 US states
* An estimate of nearly 500,000 participants
* An average of 500 people per event

2009 annual report listed 700+ events
