ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

Activities of our organisation (The World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media – WAALM) falls into two aspects:

1) WAALM as promoter of Cultural Diplomacy and Peace through the conduct of international artistic and cultural events;
2) WAALM as promoter of Cultural Diplomacy and Peace through further adult education.

With view to the first aspect, WAALM have conducted three international academy awards and festivals promoting understanding and cultural diplomacy in Budapest, and London in 2005, 2006 and 2008 in which Artists, Musicians, Writers, Scholars, Journalists, Producers and Human Rights promoters from over 10 nationalities participated.

In every event, WAALM could successfully promote the culture of peace, tolerance and understanding among the participating nations and project those through international media coverage and celebrity interviews broadcast by more than 15 news and press agencies.  http://www.waalm.com/index.php?content=news&nav=News%20Reports
With view to the second aspect, WAALM have formed the first ever School of Cultural Diplomacy fully online for adult further education in 2009. PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

Yes, we are happy to see that our collaboration with similar organisations and with those who are sharing the same vision with us has been constructive and productive. This could be seen also in the number of organisations that are contacting us to assist them to promote the culture of peace! For example we are getting ready to conduct the 1st Annual International Conference and Training in title of “Empower Africa” in which Executives, Community and Religious Leader from 18 different African nations will be participating to enhance Human Rights, Peace and Leadership. WAALM and WAALM – School of Cultural Diplomacy are the main organizers of this forthcoming event, which will be conducted in England in March 2010.

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

However, thus far all the costs of WAALM promoting Cultural Diplomacy, Peace, and Human Rights are paid generously by its founders and from their private savings, the major obstacle for our organisation was and still is finance. WAALM is a non-for profit organisation and to reach its targets relies on sponsorship, which is hard to gain and thus far had non!

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

- We are planning to conduct the 1st Annual International Conference in title of Empower Africa in March 2010 covering issues such as Leadership and Human Rights, for which we are planning to invite guests from IPB, ACUNS, and UNA.

- We are planning to dedicate our 4th WAALM Awards Festival in Oct 2010 to Culture of Peace.

- We are planning to provide free education and qualifications to less privilege countries in 2010.

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??

By being ‘Proactive’, ‘Share our visions’ and learning that ‘Understanding will grow into Respect and respect will grow into Support and support will grow into Strength ’
