SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

We are looking to build partnership especially in the South Asia region.

ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

We need to be active, synergetic and innovative to meet the ever-changing world on non discrimination basis.  Our mission is to foster interest in education, health and humanities that will eventually breed tomorrow’s economic base within the South Asian countries. The Nasreen and Alam Sher Foundation (NASF) is committed to the policies promoting long lasting peace in the world through advancement in education, health and humanities.  The NASF believes in the treatment of all human beings as individuals.  The Foundation’s proactive programs shall further enhance basic human rights without any prejudices against age, race, color, gender, sexual harassment, religion, national origin, and handicap (physical or mental).  This shall be accomplished with equal rights and opportunities for everyone with special emphasis on minorities, women, and disabled individuals.

Someone once said that we only give from what has been given to us by SOMEONE else.  It is also said that a hundred years from now it will not matter what our bank account was, the house we lived in, or the car we drove.  But the world may be different because we were important in the life of a child.  So Let us all become an important part of all our children by helping them to get the best education, improve their access to better healthcare while serving humanities.
The N.A. Sher Foundation is a non-governmental organization which aims to promote the need for education, health, and humanities in South Asian countries.

a. To create an environment in which people achieve their freedom and exercise their choices.
    b. To participate in decision-making that affects their lives.
    c. Help them to secure the integrity and self-respect.
   
    d. To empower them through capacity building training, to meet the challenges of time
    e. To make them aware about the existing resources
    f. To know their basic rights
    g. Enable them to solve their problem by themselves
    h. To improve the quality of education in South Asian countries
    i. To make them aware about HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Hepatitis and other disease
   
    j. To work on improvement of maternal health
    k. To promote gender Balance among the society
   
    l. To give due respect to human development, freedom, caring about its rights, and quality of life.
    m. To promote peace, security and democracy throughout the World.

OUR NORMS AND VALUES:  NASF has its own cultures, norms and values that comprises over following attributes

Care:  We share equal Care and Support and Advocating for their empowerment amongst our organization.
Uprightness:  We believe in integrity, accountability and responsibility, our activities are transparent.

Privileges:  We consider that everyone has equal rights irrespective of sex, race, religion, sect or age and that these should be without any discrimination.

Mutual Respect:  Everyone should respect and understand other people’s needs, hopes and fears, including those of marginalized people and their families

Excellence of Life:  We have culture of quality of life.
In 2007, furniture was donated to the faculty of the Government High School - Mazang, Lahore, Pakistan. A scholarship was given to a bright young undergraduate student of Lahore College of Commerce in Lahore, Pakistan.

In 2008, two computers were donated to the Government High School in Mazang to start the computer lab.

In 2009, another scholarship was given to a student teacher to complete her Bachelors in Education. After graduating she will work at one of our affiliated primary schools, City District Government Primary School, Safanwala Chowk, Lahore, Pakistan.

As young organisation we still have a long way to go in fulfilling our aims. We hope to look at some of the more value base programs in the enar future.

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

Our area of activities are in south Asia and we have regional coordinators to implement our country wise programs, however our core group is in US which poses a challenge for practical implementation for long terms project. We need to strengthen our regional base to be more effective.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

Our next plans are related to education, environment, human rights, and other health sector issues including awareness of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, hepatitis and other diseases.From this point onward the foundation started to have life of its own and now we are working on its expansion  to other South Asian countries.

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??
