ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

2009:

Alexandria: 100+ youth and their families, along with guest speakers and celebrity and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Khaled Abol Naga, attended an unveiling of a pyramid shaped installation consisting of 700 miniature murals, at the Bibliotheca Alexandria (Oct).  It represents what is to be unveiled on a much larger scale (MURAMID) in Cairo in September 2010 with 5280 murals around the world – commemorating the closing year of the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non Violence Among Children. The project was initiated by the Tawfill’s Art Miles Project. Read Joanne Tawfills speech. The project will be designed to travel to other countries.

Cairo: A signing ceremony in support of the UN’s "WMD We Must Disarm" campaign was organized by the UN Information Center, Human Rights Department of the Arab League and Youth Arab Council for Development. 200 participated in a cultural concert/poetry/speech event organized by Scouting 4 Peace. 1000+ youth participated in an online "Culture of Peace" campaign organized by WupY (What’s UP Youth).

2007:

An awareness event was organized in Cairo to gather representatives of different Sudanese associations, present in Cairo, and to create awareness about peace in ourselves, among the different families and tribes from Sudan, and to establish good relationships between Egyptian and Sudanese people.

2005:

US Federation for Middle East Peace (USFMEP) organized an International Day of Peace Conference in Cairo, on September 20-23. Speakers included members of USFMEP as well as Egyptian ministers, foreign dignitaries and Peace advocates. An award for "Shield of Peace Advocate of the Year" was handed out. The program also included a meeting with the Mayor of Sinai and tours of the area.

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

On a global level, reported events for the International Day of Peace continue to grow year after year (see the website listed above):

In the 2005 Report, 155 Peace Day events in 47 countries are presented.

The 2007 records show that:
* We had 623 commitments across the world
* 70 countries
* 225 cities (outside of the USA)
* 42 US states
* An estimate of nearly 500,000 participants
* An average of 500 people per event

2009 annual report listed 700+ events
