PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

The Foundation has Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC, is a member of CONGO and has good working relations with ASEAN Secretariat, Commonwealth Secretariat, Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, international NGOs etc.

ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

We have organized:-
1) “We Are One” Dialogue on Intercultural Diversity for Youth of Asia and Europe
     (2007).
2) Nilai UC-MOHE Future Leaders Camp ’09 Cultural Relations: Leading In Solidarity
   (2009)
3) “No East No West” International Conference on Intercultural Dialogue: Fostering Understanding and Building Bridges Across Cultures Among Young People of Asia and Europe. (2010)

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

We have seen some progress but more need to be done. At local level people are more aware of one another’s culture and respect and understand the sensitivities, at international level young people are keen to contribute as good ambassadors of peace. At the Foundation we found in our recent No East No West conference that if young people are given the right tools like leadership training in cultural sensitivities through youth exchange programmes,  they can help build a more harmonious world.
(Please do not exceed the space provided here for your response.)

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

~The obstacles we face are lack of fundings. This has greatly hampered our work in  implement projects.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

~To conduct training for young people of how to use non-violence, hold campaigns and community related projects, organize inter-cultural visits between countries of Asia and Europe.
~To create awareness of cultural differences at local, national and international level as well as to identify existing common ground.
~ To promote the use of mass-media and ICTs for the promotion of peace, dialogue and non-violence.
~To encourage initiative aimed at promoting understanding of the diverse cultures and faith of countries in Asia and Europe particularly among the younger generations.
~To recognize that religious leader, politicians, the business community and young people have a role in promoting a peaceful world. We continue to engage all three sectors in our quest to global peace.

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??

~By working together with interested stakeholders like UNESCO, AOC, CONGO, regional and national networks, NGOs and governments through programmes and project. Most importantly youth should be engaged and empowered through trainings, dialogues and capacity building programmes.
