ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

2009:

Bengaluri: Children's celebration with films, songs, and a collage of Peace art, with Every Child

Coimbatore: Peace march for terror free world and cultural activities.

Dehradun: Event with intellectuals and Technocrats Guild of India on Peace Day.

Hathras: Hundreds of students and parents including teachers and local government officials celebrated at Seksaria Sushila Devi Public School. The guest of honor was the Superintendent of Police. Events included a candle lighting, laying flowers around a Peace pole, spreading Peace messages through drawings or posters, singing of Peace prayers and a human Peace chain.

Kerala: 500 students from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University participated in "Peace with Nature" with talks on the environment, spirituality and social entrepreneurship.  Round-table discussion with Smart Association in collaboration with Ekta Parishad Kerala (Peace & Conflict Research Centre).

Rajasthan: Hundreds attended an event with workshops, village rallies, youth camps, drama and puppet shows in 10 village of Kota District.

Mumbai: Peace Day program with college students and peace builders, more. Event with songs, group dance, plays and thoughts on interfaith, community and national harmony.

Pune: Poster competition on Peace.

Shahkot: Mass prayer for Peace and mutual understanding at Main Bazar.

Tripura: 'Jadu Kolija' singers converge at Don Bosco Peace Centre to sing for Peace and equality.

Eastern India: A Peace service for Peace took place in with a one hour seminar on "Selfless Service" on school teachers. Salwan: Students and parents celebrated Holy Festival of Eid with Peace Day, in collaboration with Salwan URI Cooperative Circle, by lighting candles for Peace and prayers for Peace.

In Southern India, there was a Peace procession on 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanthi Day), with music troops, in collaboration with Odanavattom Cooperation Circle.

2007:

All India Sikh Students Federation A group of about 400 in Shahkot held a peace awareness and prayer event.

Anam Prem Visits were made to 43 consuls in Mumbai to hand a letter and flowers. A peace procession and a moment of silence were held in Mumbai and Sawantwadi.

In Auroville, Tamil Nadu, schools participated in a minute of silence.

Comprehensive Rural Health Project About 25 people prayed for peace, especially for Europe and the World Council of Churches Decade to Overcome Violence 2007 in Jamkhed

Humanity Foundation A group of about 100 in Mumbai participated in a Peace March, sang peace songs, and took an oath of peace.

A 24-hour Interfaith observation was held in Hyderabad

Initiatives in Development, Empowerment and Awareness Society (IDEAS) About 400 children in Tiruvuru were given candles and were shared the importance of peace, non-violence, and the lives of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and people who sacrificed for the sake of peace.

International Association for Religious Freedom and World Peace Prayer Society (WPPS) celebrated Peace Day in Mysore, Karnataka state.

Isha Foundation More than 250,000 people attended a mass planting initiative of Project Green Hands on September 23rd, organized by volunteers of Isha at Anna University Grounds in Chennai. A Guinness World Record was set for planting 852,587 saplings on a single day in 6284 locations all over Tamil Nadu. Earlier in the day crowds attended the Rural Olympics, Rural Cultural Show and Rural Food Festival. The evening concluded with a guided meditation and question and answer period with Sadhguru, a prominent yogi and spiritual leader.

Jammu Kashmir Joint Front A group of about 70 people took part in a 24 hour Interfaith observation to encourage a solution through peace and dialog regarding Jammu and Kashmir.

Religion of Youth About 3000 took part in a 24 hour Interfaith observation in Raipur and helped to collect more than 1000 books for a library for children from disadvantaged groups.

Religious Youth Service International in Chennai brought people from all walks of life to promote peace, and celebrated Peace Day with more than 1000 members.

Seksaria Sushila Devi Public School About 500 students and staff took part in Peace Day events in Hathras which included the installation of a Peace Pole, peace prayer songs, the release of white balloons, pot decorations with peace messages, peace speeches and a culture program.

UNESCO Club A group of about 250 held a peace event in New Delhi.

United Religions Initiative (URI) East India celebrated International Day of Peace at the Gandhi Museum in the Bankura District. It was the first time ever that people in the district heard about interfaith work.

Women's League of Burma About 80 Burmese in Delhi prayed and raised awareness of Burma

2005:

Anam Prem (Love ‘A’) organized celebrations in Sawantwadi-416510 on September 21. School children lighted candles in the church and incense sticks in the mosque and temple. Students from local high schools participated in a procession to mark the event and make people aware of International Day of Peace. All governmental offices as well as schools, colleges, banks and many private citizens observed one minute of silence at noon, while the church rang its bells.

International Esoteric Healing Group held a Peace ceremony at the local Hata Yogashram in Andhra Pradesh on September 21. The ceremony included lighting of lamps, burning of incense and ringing of a small bell. At 8am, a meditation started, facing east. At 9am, the Bharat Samaj Pooja, as formulated by the world teacher J. Krishnamurti of India, was performed. At 10am, an esoteric healing ritual was held for those who suffer and at 11am, there was a holy fire manifestation as per sacred Vedic principles. At 12, noon, a Peace meditation ritual was performed. At 12.40pm all the participants declared: “in good faith we solemnly take pledge and will try to the best of our ability to faithfully execute it under all circumstances. May Peace prevail in our hearts. May Peace prevail on earth”. At 1.30pm, the “Great Invocation” golden stairs prayer of all religions was recited.

The Rotaract Clubs of Mumbai Ghatkopar, Lahore Sharqi, Nawabshah, Jaipur Main and Istanbul Beyoglu in India created an e-bulletin for Peace, with the purpose of spreading the word of Peace and making an effort to achieve World Peace. The bulletin included poems and
other messages of Peace.

United Religions Initiative (URI) Delhi CCs marked International Day of Peace by organizing an Interfaith Peace Prayer in Salwan Public School on 21 September. The function began with prayer from different religious traditions of India, followed by addressed from the leaders of nine religious traditions. The Chief Guest of the function called upon the school children to work for building a peaceful society and to cultivate a culture of Peace. The principal of the school highlighted various initiatives taken by the school in promoting Peace.

Manipur URI CC observed International Day of Peace with over nine diverse religious and spiritual groups participating at the Tingkao Ragwang Kuhumkai Manipur (India) with prayer, devotional songs and a painting competition for children from the Sixth to Eighth Standard, on the theme “Global Community Prayer for Peace”.

In the 2005 Report, 155 Peace Day events in 47 countries are presented.

The 2007 records show that:
* We had 623 commitments across the world
* 70 countries
* 225 cities (outside of the USA)
* 42 US states
* An estimate of nearly 500,000 participants
* An average of 500 people per event

2009 annual report listed 700+ events
